The Rays have LESS homeruns than the Jays and have one of the best 1-Run records this season. In fact the top 5 teams in HRs have worse 1-run records than the Rays.
They have 178 stolen bases, The jays have 70.

Like i've said since the beginning of last year you can't have both no power and no speed.

The Jays is a double and single team. They would have a lot more success offensively if they would steal bases.

I feel like this is missing quite a few dimensions of what makes a good ball club. The entire point is that 1-run records are a mirage and aren’t indicative of a team’s ability or success. Even the Rockies have a good 1-run record.

I think you have COMPLETELY misunderstood the point people have made in that discussion.
What's to misunderstand? This team does not hit enough home runs to be competitive.

I don't know the numbers, but I'd bet they will finish with fewer home runs in 15+ years.

So Ohtani is now at 53/55 with 6 games left to play.

He's also at 391 total bases.

400 total bases in a season has only been done 29 times in MLB history.

Ok. Maybe I just don't know who's on the other side of the "Jays need more power" argument.

Could have used a HOMER in any of these 3 1-run losses eh?

I'd love you people to argue this one.

It's the Trop. Always some rando scrub who beats us. Aranda beat us. Their bullpen is also something else, man. Not to sound like I am making excuses, just sayin even if this was a 100 win team, they would still find ways to lose at the Trop. That's they way she goes. I hate it, but there is nothing any one of us can do.

Why is that some scrub reliever who was placed on waivers 50 times all of a sudden becomes unhittable after the Rays pick him up?

I dont think there will even be a 100 win team in any of the divisions... And that's with the white sox team thats gonna lose 120+ games.

Yep, everyone already has at least 63 losses.

I think if the Sox weren't in a Central division someone would have won 100.

It's almost impressive that they've managed to lose this many games in such a... maybe not terrible, but mediocre division, at best. Cleveland seem legitimately good. The Royals, Twins, and Tigers are all competing for the playoffs entirely by kicking the shit out of the White Sox (12-1, 12-1, 9-1 against them respectively - all three are below .500 when they don't play the White Sox).

Lacking a few dimensions doesn't mean what i said is wrong. I'd argue all day and night that if you got no power and no speed it's going to be hard to win games unless you have top of the league pitching.

Kirk is like a boss. "go ahead! I'll gun you down all game long, punks"
He has improved his throwing big time this year. Either its arm strength or the mechanics of release or both, but it's a great sign going forward, and I have much more confidence in him going forward.

Clearly he isn't gonna be hitting like his all star season. But he hasn't fallen apart after Janssen was traded and he was given a bigger workload, unlike before.

Last few games have been painful to watch from a hitting perspective.

The team has decent depth but needs two more solid bats IMO.
It has pretty much regressed to pre-august if you ask me. they've been shut out a number of times and in many losses can't muster much more than 2-3 runs.

Vladdy really needs to stop with the "review every play" whether he's out running or runner is safe when fielding.

He was out by more than a foot.

The offence has hit a rut. Looked good for a while but then Looks like Mattingly got to the young/inexperienced players. Or is it Guillermo Martinez? Fire them both.

They truly need to get an entire new offensive coaching staff. Get rid of Mattingly alltogether cuz if he has any input on the offense, the results have been dreadful for the 2 years he's been here.

If Shapiro/Atkins don't do this in the off season, they will really start hurting in attendance.

Agreed. Mattingly has had no results and Martinez likely has been here too long. I don't mind keeping Hague.

It's also worth noting, the team is putting a lineup out that isn't that good and inexperienced.

Leadoff Hitter
Bo
Vladdy
#4 Hitter
Horwitz
etc.

IMO they need to get a leadoff hitter. Springer is on the decline. They need someone behind Vladdy. What they have after Horwitz is fine.

I am all in on Soto... whatever the cost.

O'Neill depends on the price. I will give him plenty of off days or DH days as well. He offers nice right handed pop with an injury prone body.

To me, O'Neill is very interesting but as you said he is injury prone. I don't know how is so injury prone, he is built like a tank. I'd love to have him, though. The fact that he is Canadian, is a cherry on top.
