Holy living f***. I'd somehow forgotten about Faksa being traded, I guess maybe because he was just given away.

It's especially bad with the Stars this year. None of the RHD have been any good in years or some of them well ever.

It's a funny tweet, but this is the best deployment possible IMO considering who Nill decided to sign.

Any pair with Miro on the ice will dominate, doubly so with Miro on the left.

Any pair with Harley on the ice will dominate.

And Esa-Nils will exist (and actually makes sense conceptually with a defensive stalwart + puckmover) and the sun will rise for another shift.

Seems to be national writers clown on the Stars day

Yeah, Harley-Heiskanen can be the best pair in the league but who cares? It's always there for emergencies. The regular season is irrelevant. Distributing minutes more broadly and keeping the top players fresh for the playoffs is the only thing that matters. As we found out finishing first in the conference can actually get you the toughest possible draw.

The player that stood out most to me on Day 1 was Mavrik Bourque. The 22-year-old scored a nifty goal–high glove on 6-foot-6 Magnus Hellberg–during the scrimmage.

Bourque centered a line between Jamie Benn and Logan Stankoven, and they looked great together. Bourque scored, and Stankoven had a couple scoring chances off turnovers up the ice. They look like they will be a menace on the forecheck.

How much are the pairings even actually on the ice together ? When Miro was paired with Colin Miller most of the time Miller was at like 15 minutes while Miro played his usual 25. This isn't to handycap the best defenseman its to coverup the weaknesses of the worse ones. Miro and Harley can and will still be a thing. Since they signed Lyubushkin someone has to play 5on5 minutes with him even if you mostly use him on the PK.

And a lot of it is situational anyway, like those may be the pairings for the majority of the time but if you get a favorable matchup or offensive zone draw they may tactically go for the jugular with H-H together, or if the game is in doubt in the 3rd period

I think Lindell is the best babysitter on the roster.

Just please don't pair him with Lyubushkin. It'll be just Esa-Jani 2.0 and that was not pretty. Like Esa can make sure the pairing won't sink but if you give him a guy with less offense than himself its going to a completely inept pairing offensively that has trouble getting out of its own zone.
