Rumor: 2024 Trade Rumors and Free Agency Thread: Post Deadline

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Thanks to you, I’ve got the refrain ‘Meet George Jetson! Jane, his wife. Daughter Judy. His boy Elroy’ playing over and over through my head.

Are we sure this dude isn't supposed to play in net?

Guessing $16m AAV, but who knows by the time that new cap is in effect and other teams have started their drunken sailor spending on far inferior defensemen.
Makar got a pretty fat paycheck last time but was no difficult to sign in any way as I recall. I imagin the same will happen again no matter what number they land on. Just one question though... Would Makar quite possibly becoming the highest paid play in league history would this be a case where we should actually look into deferred compensation? Or is that frowned upon by players because it delays compensation rather than giving immediate earnings?

He had an unprecedented contract coming out of an ELC as a defender. Yeah, no shit it wasn't difficult to sign when the Avs paid him more than literally anyone else before him at the same position, and there were no comparables for him.

Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar are going to be UFA the same year. IF (and I think it's a big if for both of them) they want to stay with their respective teams, it will be a game of chicken of who goes first. Makar should get paid more no doubt, but Quinn is not that much behind him. But since both are UFAs, it's not going to be quite the same lockstep as there was in 2019 with Rantanen, Marner, Point, M. Tkachuck, Laine (am I missing someone) who all basically held out until training camp when they were looking at eachother for comparables.

Frank with an all time bad player evaluation… Ritchie could certainly be a good player. But there’s nothing in his game to suggest he could be anything like Bergeron.
Someone is feeding Frank this information/hype. I highly doubt he follows junior hockey enough to have a take like that.

That said, a lot of people who actually follow junior hockey are high/very high on Ritchie.

Ritchie could absolutely be a decent player going forwards I won’t argue that. Nothing about his skill set would make me compare him to Bergeron though. That’s just ludicrous.

Yeah I like Ritchie, and think he has the potential to be a good NHLer, but not only is Bergeron an all time great, he didn't really play the same style Ritchie. Odd comp. Feels like it was just for clicks.

I wonder how long these predictions will last.

”Well surely there will not be another global pandemic!”

Yeah, but let’s see how much the upcoming trade war and the crash of canadian dollar is going to put a hold on the rise of the cap, they are like 30% of the league revenue no?
I just want to know why in the hell the NHL is so bullish on the economy when every financial news outlook is forecasting nothing but either declines or uncertainty when it comes to disposable income.
