Caps with another lopsided win over a Portland Timbers squad, that just looks bad. Going down to 10 men on an early red card, didn't help them.

Didn't the Caps end the Timbers season last year with a 5-0 blowout? A packed crowd on a rainy, miserable afternoon in Portland. But by the end, the stands looked half deserted.

Can't get a much better start to the long MLS season.

For those interested but who didn't see the game:
Whitecaps 4 / Timbers 1

Vancouver goals: Gauld, Vite, Adekugbe, Nelson

The Whitecaps dominated possession and shots.

I didn’t get to see it, and I will take the points, but it would have been nice to see how the team would look 11 v. 11 for their first game. Getting 80 minutes with a man advantage makes it hard to draw conclusions.

You can't help but be impressed by the turnout of Portland fans on a rainy and miserable day. Stands looked absolutely packed to me for the Timbers home opener.

But after their side basically laid an egg, the stadium emptied out in a hurry. I really hope they can find a way to make the MLS work in Vancouver. Those Cascadia Cup matches between Vancouver-Seattle-Portland, would be something I'd really miss. And I'm not even much of a soccer fan.

Already really not liking this Nelson addition.

Nevermind. Nelson is fantastic.

Sorry, but this made me laugh... 73 minutes between these two posts, lol. It's kind of a funny sequence, you must admit. I had no idea who Nelson was prior to this game, but me likey him now. Let's hope this game is a harbinger of things to come.

But yeah, tough to judge the calibre of the Whitecaps when they were a man up for 80 minutes against a team that entered the season with a lot of question marks.

The straight red might have been harsh, but there's no question that Miller made a pretty massive tactical blunder by making any sort of contact in that situation. Miller forced the ref to make a call on a foul that nullified a legitimate scoring opportunity. That's always red card territory.

The Timbers would have been far better off if Miller had simply tried to force White to one side without contact, thereby maximizing Crepeau's chances of making a save. The end result is probably still a goal for White, but at least Portland has 80 minutes without being down a man to erase the 1 goal deficit on home turf.

When a team is down a man for 90% of the game, it's pretty difficult not to lose.

2-0 over Saprissa in the second leg at home (both nice finishes by Brian White) and the Whitecaps advance to play Monterrey in CONCACAF Champions League.

Nice win.. Did they really play Ahmed on the left side of a front 3?

Just watched the highlights but Ahmed looked decent, and created a bunch of chances. Should've had one or two.

It was funny to see Waston again. He almost scored too.

Nelson has good ball control and can fly. His decision-making based on limited viewing seems to be above MLS standards.

Wow! Canadian soccer fans need to catch up with TSN' Rod Black and his interview with Jesse Marsch. The transplanted American, who now is Canada's National Team coach, blasted the U.S. Administration and the President, in particular.

Basically said he was 'ashamed to be an American, for the amount of disrespect shown to Canada as a proud and strong nation. Says his players are a special group who wear the Canadian flag on their jerseys and in their hearts.

I'm surprised his interview didn't get more exposure, but maybe it made the rounds on Twitter (X), I don't know. But Gretzky might learn a thing or two, listening to it.

The Whitecaps bookend it with a very early, then a very late goal to take it 2-1 against a pretty undermanned LA Galaxy side. Not dominant, but comfortable.

Adekugbe was in tears when he came off... probably means it's the same knee that has dogged him throughout his career. 2 goals in 2 games, but we may not see him for a long while yet, unfortunately.

I don’t understand the booing of the US National Anthem.

At this point it’s stupid.

Decent game from the Caps. Started strong, tailed off after Adekugbe went off but were solid in the 2nd half.

More entertaining so far than the last couple years.

Seriously?

At this point it takes a special kind of stupid not to understand why Canadians would boo the US anthem.

As a proud Canadian, I want my country to continue to exist. Your comments suggest you don't.

I just don’t see the point.

Is this going to go on for four years because of one donkey?

You don't see the point because you are being willfully naive. The Trump administration wants to end Canada for geopolitical reasons.

Pick a f***ing side man. Now is the time.

Easiest decision one will ever or should ever make.

That said I also chose not to boo the US anthem. We should be above that, but at the same time be ready to fight for all we have.
