Toronto Blue Jays' Orelvis Martinez suspended 80 games for PED violation | TSN

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martinez has been suspended 80 games for violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy, it was announced Sunday. MLB said Martinez tested positive for Clomiphene, a performance-enhancing substance, and will serve his suspension without pay.

“The Blue Jays fully support Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, and strongly believe in keeping the game on a level playing field. We were both surprised and disappointed to learn of Orelvis Martinez’s suspension. We will do everything in our power to ensure Orelvis has learned from this mistake. Orelvis has our support, and we know he will get through this," general manager Ross Atkins said in a statement released via the team Sunday morning.

Nice that Atkins stands up for the league instead of his own players, lol. Shanny clone!

What else can you wrong? Can't see this team improving next year either. It's time to blow it up. Leave statistical analysis to more experienced professionals.

Jays 2015 (pre all star) :

3rd for HR
1st for doubles
3rd for Walks
1st for runs (2nd team had 75 less runs)
12th for stolen bases
5th for batting average
2th for OBP
1st for SLG
1st for OPS

Jays 2024 :

29th for HR
10th for doubles
6th for walks
27th for runs
24th for stolen bases
23rd for batting average (but ... but .... but ... remember baseball has changed)
18th for OBP
26th for SLG
23rd for OPS

But remember folks BASEBALL HAS CHANGED so everything is fine don't have to get on base and steal bases these days you just have to prevent runs.

As i said the entire year last year you simply can't not hit for power and be slow on base. That's a recipe for a disaster. The 2015 team was hitting with power, was getting on base and was also stealing base an an average rate.

The saddest part is that the fanbase saw the offensive struggles coming.
And yet here we are.
They tried to be too smart in constructing this team (run prevention the be all end all) and it's failed.
The only question for me is do we trust these guys to start selling off and collecting prospects and then bringing in new management in the offseason or are we better off just letting them go now and bringing in new people to do that?

It was to be expected, maybe not this bad but outside of Vlad, their lineup really doesn't scare anyone. IMO instead of putting all their eggs in the Shohei basket, they should have added more to this team than Vogelbach and Turner.

I don't follow. The team's medical professionals have confidentiality obligations as well. It's not like they are going to go run and announce to the public and his family he's trying for a baby.
All he (and all these other professional athletes) need to do if they are obtaining treatment outside of the team, is to check in with the team.

He admitted that he wishes he told the team. All I’m saying is that infertility is a sensitive subject. There is a lot of shame that people associate with it, some people wish to keep that matter private. It doesn’t have anything to do with thinking the team would disclose. He's also a young guy, so he probably wasn’t even aware the team could help you with that.

At the end of the day it was a simple mistake, it’s not like he was cheating. He tried to deal with a situation, the doctor screwed him, he also should have been more diligent in checking. But it’s just unfortunate all around. Don’t think there is any blame to put on anyone here.

Jays pickup Jose Cuas over the waiver wire :)

Cuas, 29, has appeared in nine games so far this season with the Cubs, pitching to a 7.43 ERA with a 1.65 WHIP. He has allowed 16 hits, three home runs and six walks over his 13.1 innings pitched.

great numbers and should be valuable in the bullpen

The medication thats listed in the press release is for the female to stimulate ovulation. Not sure why Orelvis is taking that stuff. Something doesnt pass the sniff test here. Or they went to some quack of a doctor.

Excellent question. Teams should be proactively testing their players. Why weren't the Jays testing their own players and prospects?

If it's a banned substance, it doesn't matter. It's on the player to know what's going into their body at all times, regardless of the intended use of whatever substance. Crap situation but that's how it goes for everyone lucky enough to be a MLB player.

The substance is not FDA approved for any condition for men. Only approved for fertility issues for women.

And the side effects are clearly indicated as increased muscle mass, hence why its banned as a PED.

Why would he be taking it. Seems nobody is discussing this fact and are taking the press release as gospel.
