So this pick is fine? I have no opinion yet. I know nothing about him.
Same.

Though he was on Guadana's "Good" list so there's that :

Great
Lindstrom, Nygard, Buium

Very good
Chernyshov, Solberg, Dickinson, Helenius

Good
Catton, Hage, Silayev

Okay
Iginla Sennecke

Not okay
Yakemchuk, Parekh, Eiserman

I feel bad for Iginla, btw.

Nobody told me there'd be days like these...

To me this was a Fitz pick. If you go back to 2020 they picked Mukhamadullin and Fitz talked about scouting him as a big toolsy draft eligible KHL player. I’m guessing Silayev was an easy watch for Fitz because he had a semi recent direct comparable. Mukhamadullin looks to be a good pick so let’s see how Silayev trends.

definitely not hedman, and its a disservice to the kid that the comp is even still floating around. but if things break right, something more in the chara mold could absolutely be in play. he has his issues, im not glossing over them because hes our pick, but youd be hard pressed to find a more dominant shutdown presence coming out of the draft than him
one of the sportsnet talking heads said hes a mix of Chara and Bowmeester.

Fitz is currently obsessed with size, physicality, "violence" and being harder to play against. Obvious this was going to be Silayev or Dickinson even though Buium and probably Helenius were the best players on the board.

I don't think he's going to be Hedman. Could he be a modern day Chara? Possibly.

He’s an elite skater.

People complained about Fitz ignoring skating, but when he picks one of the best skaters in the draft, people seemingly don’t care about skating anymore.

He isn’t perfect but all three of the available d-men have flaws.

I liked the idea of trading down, and grabbing a forward, but acting like one of these defenders is an obvious dud is crazy to me.

Ok, I've let this one marinate a bit, because I was more surprised than anything, didn't think he'd ever make it to 10. I had been hammering him as a guy who might fall, but not THIS far.

I'm kind of falling in love with this pick. He's unlike any other player in this draft, and playing 68 games in the (~)2nd best league in the world as a 17 year old this year is not nothing. Especially since the league is notorious for burying young guys.

Sky is the limit, and even if he doesn't reach the absolute peak of his potential, I think he can be a dude you turn to anchor a defense, absorbing big PK minutes and tough ES matchups.

Not even just a “good for his size” skater either which is generally greatly overrating big guys skating. He’s just simply one of the best skaters in the draft. I’m like the biggest anti size queen guy and I f***ing love this guy

Yeah we literally don’t even need his offense to ever develop given the 3 20 year olds we have and also one of the current best offensive defenseman AND that he projects as an elite shutdown guy. This pick is worth it without needing the offense. If it even comes you’ve got a mmmmmmegastar

You will only pry one of Fitz's picks from his cold dead hands, unless it's a 7th round pick in which case he will trade it without a second thought.

(I also liked a trade down here but given that the Sharks and Sabres already made a pick move in this range, kinda hard to get either of them interested in that)

I appreciate all the work our “draft gurus” put in, but some of you guys ruin it. STI is great but his word isn’t absolute. This is crazy hive mind.

I didn’t even know if there was going to be a #10 pick. I couldn’t invest myself fully into any one prospect. This guy is allowed to play all parts of the game in the KHL. If he keeps developing he could be a home run.

The best player in the world didn’t win the cup, the bigger team won.

Watching just the Wheeler clips but a guy who skates like this at 5’11” would still be considered a good skater, just based on the clips.

His 4 way movement and comfort at changing directions looks dynamic, regardless of him being so large and doing it.

Happy to hear he is a great skater. That makes me want to believe NHL coaching can make him useful and lets see if his talent makes him great.

In todays game skating comes before everything else.

P.s. not a fan of drafting Russians in general due to the political risk of the players becoming political pawns and e.g. not being allowed to leave the country after the offseason.

the people angry are the ones that barely post on the forums unless something they don't like happens. Everyone who participated in the draft threads seem to be in the "happy" and "okay" camps with some just in a wait and see mode.

EP has him as the 2nd best straight line skater and 3rd best four way mobility in the class

In an odd way the political climate there probably helps because players probably want to get the f*** out of there.

Who the hell called him a dud or said he's not an elite skater? I haven't seen that anywhere. His scouting reports universally say that he's an elite skater and massive rangy defenseman.

The question is whether the offensive upside and puck skills limit his ceiling
