You're not the only one. I've said it for quite some time now. There must be a way to find scouts who are great at evaluating forward talent.

Of course, you can look at the whole picture and say maybe it's certain scouts are pushing for 'their' players and boxing other opinions out.

This is an extreme example, but maybe some guys in 2019 loved Tracey so much and didn't want to take Brink who fell in the rankings.

The very next draft, the Ducks drafted an offensive forward who fell in the draft in Jacob Perreault. This is why it's a crapshoot beyond the top-10 at drafting forwards with our group. Being adept at understanding defensemen and goalies, our scouting group obviously have a template of success beyond the top-10.

Hell, we thought we hit jackpot with Terry, Jones, and Steel in their 2016-17 season! Terry was Mr. 5-hole at the WJC-20, Steel razed 131 points in 66 WHL games, and Jones greatly improved his scoring production to nearly 1.10 from 0.83 (except for that whole being made out of glass injury thing, which still plagues him to this day). That NHL threshold is a much bigger jump. Hell, Terry didn't find his way in the NHL until his D+7 season.

We thought we found a gem in Comtois until he decided to no longer put in work after earning his second NHL contract. Another gem was Kase, but his demise were concussions.

Then, how much did COVID affect Tracey and Perreault?

I think we've had bad luck with drafting forwards than being outright bad at drafting forwards upon reflection.

This isn’t based on the 2 prospect games solely - but the Myatovic pick is incredibly underwhelming. He’s being passed on the depth chart by guys that we drafted 2-4 rounds after him. That just isn’t a good sign for a guy who was an early 2nd round pick
One pick away from being a 1st round pick...

Don’t worry, Verbeek will spin it as saying they love his ‘compete level’ and will stand by the pick

Not to defend Myatovic, but Sidorov and Rodwin were drafted in their D+1 seasons.

Madden and Verbeek saw a defensive guy who notched 30 goals in his D+0 season. The thinking was that Nico could be an elite, complementary winger for the top-6. Last year, he had a serious injury that cut his season in half.

why are people overreacting so much to one rookie tournament game?
First time on the boards? Honestly probably because the fans see it as a literal tournament when the team probably see's it more as a development exercise. They are less worried about winning these things and more interested in player development and getting them up to speed for the season. On a side note we are missing our top three picks from this year on our rookie roster and lots of our good prospects are already in the NHL. It wasn't going to be one of those dominate rookie performances that we got used to.

Yup, our last 4 1st round picks aren’t even playing, and the only 1st round pick we have in the tournament is from a trade.

Those are all fair points but as a relatively high pick you have high expextations. He SHOULD be better than Dionicio and Sidorov despite being slightly behind developmentally. But he’s not and it’s really not even close right now at least to the naked eye

There has to be serious progression from Myatovic this season and he has to stay healthy or else I will consider him another Tracey

I wasn't super impressed with that power play (a common refrain), but Sidorov and Luneau both looked dangerous. I think Luneau is going to fight pretty hard for a roster spot.

I'm really curious to see if Sidorov produces in the AHL. When it comes to offense, he has "it." The question will be whether he wrestle the other parts of the game to a draw so he can contribute at the NHL level eventually.

Everyone is just tired of losing too, even if it's a nothing tournament in September.

The only way you can lose in this tournament is to have a player get injured.

It's impossible to say if a player is even having a truly poor performance because for all we know, the coaches are asking them to work on something they know they are specifically bad at.

just silly to me considering these guys have barely even played with one another

First 6-7 minutes were a little dicey but pretty dominant for the second half of that period.

Luneau and Sido continue to be the most interesting players for us, but I like Hinds' game. Reminds me of Lindholm in that he's quietly efficient.

Myatovic isn't that interesting but I think he'll be a decent complementary winger, like a taller Cogs.
