Gushchin has no trade value. Every team/organization has a player or two like this. Samuel Fagemo scored 43 goals in 50 AHL games last year, is much bigger than Gushchin and shoots right but he's almost certainly going to be cut from the Kings and will probably clear waivers. Toronto can't seem to give Nick Robertson away.

There's no room in the NHL for these undersized one dimensional scoring wingers which is why Junior going all in on them was such a glaring red flag of his incompetence.

Toronto could trade Robertson easily but they are likely asking too much.

Dickinson sent back to London. Hopefully was a good experience for him.
The important thing for Sam is that while he's obviously not ready for the NHL this season, he improved with each game he played.

I would love to see him focus on becoming a bit meaner in front of his net and obviously on breakouts. I think he has real potential to be not just a minute-muncher but someone who can really smother entries and prevent zone time. His transition defense is already really good.

I hope that Gushchin-Smith-Zetterlund line clicks. If it does, it gives the team some flexibility with the other two lines they're going to depend on.
If Gushchin can show the hustle and finish he did in his most recent pre-season game, he could definitely be a fit there.

I think that the only way Gushchin is on the opening roster is if Celebrini isn't healthy.

I don't know that I agree that Celebrini's health determines Gushchin's odds of getting on the opening roster because a player like Gushchin probably has the best odds of making a team like ours if he clicks with a player like Celebrini or Smith. But because both would be rookies, it has to be pretty obvious and productive when done. Otherwise, Gush was going to have to figure out a way to be considered the best option for an open spot on a 3rd line. And that was also going to be a long-odds difficult sort of path too considering his profile. I hope he earns the opportunity and I hope he runs with it because I think him making it obvious that he's an NHL caliber talent can make the Sharks a lot better a lot quicker.

I mean, it's pretty obviously top-6 or bust for Gushchin right now. The third line is going to be Goodrow-Wennberg-Kunin. Gushchin isn't beating out any of Eklund/Celebrini/Smith/Granlund/Zetterlund/Toffoli for a top-6 job, and he's not playing on the 4th line. So unless one of those top-6 guys isn't healthy (could be Granlund I guess), Gushchin isn't making it.

How about this?

Eklund-Celebrini-Toffoli
Gushchin-Smith-Zetterlund
Goodrow-Granlund-Kunin
Grundstrom-Wennberg-Dellandrea

Gushchin fanboys get their wish, Goodrow and Kunin still get top nine minutes, everybody wins. Except for Granlund but he's not long for this team anyway.

I don't think it's anywhere near as set in stone as you think but you may be right. I hope Gushchin gives them a good enough reason to avoid a 3rd line like that. I don't see how that 3rd line helps the top six at all.
