I made the following comment on the Hockey subreddit on the Reddit site, but I'll add it here:
What a series between Hershey and Cleveland! They each played like the division champions they both were this season.
For people who didn't follow the series closely:
*The Hershey Bears beat the Cleveland Monsters 4 games to 3.
*Five of the seven games were decided by one goal.
*Four of the seven games went to overtime (all four games in Hershey - Games 1, 2, 6, and 7).
*In all four overtime games, the Monsters came from behind in the 3rd period to force overtime. In 3 of the 4 games, they scored in the last 1:33 or later of regulation to force overtime.
*Cleveland forced a Game 7 after falling behind in the series 3 games to 0.
Hershey, the top team in the AHL in the regular season, will now play the Coachella Valley Firebirds, who were the Western Conference regular season and playoff champions (#2 team in the AHL in the regular season behind Hershey). This series is a rematch of last season's Calder Cup finals, which the Bears won in 7 games, with the Game 7 win in overtime. The Firebirds actually dominated in their 3 wins (outscoring Hershey 14-2), but the Bears won all four of their games by one goal, three of them occurring in overtime.
Game 1 of the Calder Cup finals in Hershey will take place on Friday night and start at 7 PM ET.
