I mean we can stop at the assault charges. That's taking it way too far. I think it's ok to laugh at the guy grabbing glove/ball. He's obviously an idiot but it made for a lot of laughs on Twitter. The guy holding Betts' wrist though could have done some damage.
1st hour of felger and mazz podcast was hilarious

As early as the middle of 2025, the Red Sox could be routinely fielding lineups with seven or eight young, cost-controlled position players, and three young(ish) cost-controlled starting pitchers.

At that point, failing to use their financial muscle to fill in the gaps in their roster would be nothing short of neglect on behalf of ownership.

They're saying the right things at this point, but...

Soto is going to get $600+ and he earned it. Yankees can't afford to lose him, but other owners like Cohen and Ricketts are going to offer the moon. It's going to be competitive.

Cashman and Steinbrenner seem oddly faithful to Boone, but I don't know if Boone can survive this. Hal's dad would go scorched earth and fire Boone and trade Judge if he were alive.

Judge had a really bad series, and that market can be brutal to underperforming players but I think he's going to survive and be fine.

I can't see Judge going anywhere either, but I also don't expect him to miraculously turn into playoff mode David Ortiz either (or anything near that level, aside from the odd series or 2).

Plus, he's going to be 33 in April --- big guys often break down sooner than others --- not saying he's going to turn into a .220/20/60 guy overnight -- but I also don't see him hitting 45 HR a short 3-4 years from now, even if he stays healthy.

Boone --- it's just crazy to me that he's still there, TBH. I mean this is NYY, I just never imagined any Yankee manager would still be around after what? 5-6 years without sniffing a title.

As for Soto --- what better way to kick the Yankees when they're down than seeing the team across town steal him away?

Also, I wonder if the Giants go big after him? Seems like they're often willing to offer big money to marquee guys (Weren't they deep in on Judge?) and they need some star power and production if they're going to be competing with Shohei, Tatis, et al for the next decade or so.

Agree

Next month should give us answers

RF - Abreu (Anthony close)
CF- Rafaela
LF - Duran & Refsnyder

I would offer O’Neil the qualifier don’t see him take it

DH - I go hard after Rooker

3B - Devers
SS - Story (Mayer close)
2B - Grissom (Gonzalez close)
1B - Casas

Story is loved by Cora, is the leader and perfect bridge to Mayer

0.0 he’s going and he’s still exceptional fielder

C - Wong (Teal close)

Plan: get Rooker & move Yoshida

Simple

PITCHING

Houck
Bello
Crawford

Giolito

I would go after Fried & Flaherty - but lot of guys out there

I’d love to see Pivetta return as a closer - I think he would be fantastic

He’s a swing & miss guy and an animal

It's just words though and fans see right through that

I want Bregman and send Yoshida out in a package for pitching. Plus add 2 legit starters who are good enough to move Houck to #3 and Bello to # 4.

Duran - LF
Bregman - 3B
Devers - DH
Casas - 1B
Abreu - RF
Wong - C
Story - SS
Grissom - 2B
Rafaella - CF

Not sure it's title worthy -- but taking Devers off the field and into the full time DH role makes the defense significantly better.

Obviously not sold on Story staying healthy, but if he breaks down put Rafaella at SS and put Duran in CF and find this years version of O'Neil -- or bring him back.

Bregman has been a monster at Fenway throughout his career.

Yes - he would definitely be of interest and you move Devers to 1B

I’d rather have Rooker though

Would be a killer at Fenway and a fan favorite

The question was simple: How many home runs did Brent Rooker hit for the A's in 2024? The prize for guessing correctly was a bucket of beer. These guys just started lobbing out guesses, but to their credit, they did begin with 29 homers, which is a respectable total. After a few guesses they got to his actual total of 39, and were awarded the brews.

Rooker drops some hints that the guy that he's asking about with all of these cameras around is in fact himself, but the fans don't pick up on it. After discussing fantasy baseball for a minute, the main fan in the video goes, "Brent Rooker was my first pickup and he was a dog." At this point someone off camera says, "that's him" pointing to Rooker and the look of shock on this guy's face is priceless.

The Yanks have to feel devastated. Probably their best shot at a title for a long time (Soto may leave, little payroll flexibility). Easy road (KC and CLE) and then faced an injury-plagued Dodgers. Could and should have won games 1 and 5.

On the other hand, Dave Roberts has got to be the biggest winner after this WS. Always criticized as Dodgers-manager, not getting credit for 20, but now winning a legit title with a Dodgers-team missing more than half their rotation.

You guys have a $190mil+ payroll. LOL. Its not like you're the freakin' Oakland A's (or whatever they're calling themselves next year)...

So? 190 is middle of the pack in todays game.

Of course you can be successful with a lesser or average payroll, but you have a much higher shot if you are in the top 5 perennially. And all things considered, the Red Sox have no reason not to be right behind the Yankees, Dodgers and Mets. Especially after what has transpired over the past years finishing in the basement. 2018 was already 6 years ago.

And judging from recent past and seeing how many prospects they have, it's much more likely that they are using that currency (prospects) instead of real money. Meaning Crochet rather than Burnes / Fried.

I understand positivity but in with an underperforming salesman like Henry is, better to cut bait then hear their year to year excuses or living off past successes years ago

They're $65 million under the first luxury tax threshold.

The year after they shipped out Mookie and David Price they were way under, but other than that, they've never been more than about $12 million under the threshold, and most years, they were less than $10 million under the threshold.

Surely, they're in a position where they can add ~$50 million to the payroll, at a minimum.

Here we go again

Same nonsense different year

I don't care about how many "cost-controlled" position players they can field like it's the Oakland As. Plus there is zero chance that all the guys you are talking about pan out.
