I thought it was pretty dumb. There are some dumb events in the Olympics but I don’t see how or why it should be.

If it was done correctly, it could be argued it is no different than a gymnastics or ice-skating competition.

But when you had participants like Raygun that kind of made a mockery of the whole thing, of course it's not coming back.

Speaking of awesome I watch the Women's breakdancing battle finals and the women's Artistic swimming. These are 2 sports that I have no idea how they are Olympic sports but damn I couldnt stop watching them. Saying they are extremely talented is an understatement.

I watched both of those and while interesting neither compared to rhythmic gymnastics imo. Significant athleticism, e.g., throwing a ball 40 feet in the air then laying on their front on the floor and trapping it in the back of their knees between thighs and calves when it came down. Another spun a hoop on the floor so it came back around like a boomerang and while it was still spinning on the floor went through the middle of it; hard to describe, you'd have to see it. And probably the most elegant presentation of the entire games, to boot. If you get a chance to see any of the replays I bet you'd find it worth your while.

All this reminds me that a while back there was a group that made a big push to have chess added as an Olympic sport. They tried to make the argument that a chess tourney required physical stamina to the extent that it should be considered. Obviously, common sense won out.

Oh I know, like most it's a mixture of capitalism with social safety nets and such, but it's often held up as a gold-standard despite ignoring skeletons-in-the-closet. Pure capitalism and pure socialism both have massive failures for different reasons, which is the reason they have to be blended, but how they're blended is the tricky part. And unlike what people want to think, there's no one-size-fits-all version due to cultural, geographical, and population differences
