Wouldn’t say he’s an elite skater but he can definitely get going. I really like Basha. I’ve seen some people call him offense-only but I like his b-game as well, he could definitely be a third line grinder type despite his size. If he were there at 33 I’d sprint to the podium unless the big RHD like Jiricek/Elick/Emery were still available. Without taking needs into consideration, I’d rank him in the mid-late teens.

The 1st OA pick is a huge marketing tool. This fanbase needs something to get excited about. Us, here, are only a small percentage of fans. I was born and raised in San Jose, so I can tell you first hand that the Sharks and “The Tank”, are very important to both hardcore and casual fans alike. Hockey is big in Northern California. Folks from Sacramento, down through the valley in Modesto and the entire Bay Area all predominantly cheer for the Sharks. Celebrini is a billboard face and potential franchise saving player that this franchise needs. Even if we’re not winning games, a marquee player like Celebrini who was once a Jr. Shark, would not only energize the Sharks fan base but would put a spot light on grass roots ice hockey in Northern California. I presume that this is equally important to the NHL.

Absolutely. Even outside of the local market, having a 1st overall guy gives the national media more reason to post about your team. Whether it's the NHL making posts on social media, getting a few more national broadcasted games on TV, or even just fans across the country buying a Celebrini (or whoever) jersey it just creates more brand awareness. Getting the 1st pick is alot more than just getting a talented player on the ice.

Look at the Sharks attendance this year...marketing this brand/team needs to be a HUGE focus. Obviously being more competitive will help.

Woah, you're putting too much pressure on a kid who hasn't even been pick yet. Let him settle in a for 1 year or 2 then tell him that.

These guys understand the pressure they're going to be under, at least intellectually, and they are being trained and coached how to handle it. I don't think it's going to be a surprise that the franchise's hopes rest on his shoulders.

Macklin can handle the pressure I think. Rick would have instilled that ability him no matter what it took, that and a deep seated hatred for the Sharks.

It's definitely my approach to drafting, but I'd happily be wrong passing on Eiserman at 14 if someone like Yakemchuk, or even Catton or Iggy, are available. Depending on Sennecke's rise, him as well.

I just don't like the vibe and style of the player. It's amazing that he scored a hat trick yesterday and people watching him feel like he's lazy and disinterested. It's kind of true, too. The goal scoring is off the charts, but how many pure goalscorers thrive in today's NHL? I am a hater and will be 100% OK admitting I was wrong if he succeeds in the NHL beyond the regular season.

I wouldn’t be thrilled with Eiserman at 14 but he’s more than an elite shot and he’s so much better than Halttunen it’s not even funny.

Realistically, we’re talking about other wingers at 14 if we aren’t talking Eiserman. Specifically, who would you take over Eiserman? Brandsegg-Nygard, Greentree, Sennecke, Basha, Chernyshov?

I don’t know if I would take Eiserman over those wingers but they are in the same tier. I have 13 players ahead of all those wingers.

So what you’re saying is that Eiserman is probably the BPA at 14, then?

I agree with you that those four wingers are in the mix for me at 14. It’s a really interesting group of guys to me. You have the goal-machine Eiserman, who I think is basically a guaranteed 30 goal guy in the NHL, but maybe he’ll only get 45 points total and be a PP specialist and provide no other value. Greentree is super skilled but has heavy feet, though I think I like him more than Matthew Wood last season. Sennecke is a big question mark but has a lot of upside. MBN has everything you want but maybe doesn’t have the scoring upside of the rest, and he might be a little small relative to the style of game he wants to play (sort of like Ryan Leonard keeps getting physically destroyed in the NCAA).

Gun to my head, I might take Greentree. But Eiserman is probably the BPA, so if we take him with your tier of 13 off the board (though I don’t agree with Jiricek in that tier, it’s not unreasonable), then I’d probably be okay with it.

I could see Greentree. Celebrini and Greentree are my wish list players right now. I would be pretty damn satisfied to walk out of the 1st rd with Celly and Eiserman though.
