In fact..I am not even sure at all that we have a real number one defenseman so far with Guhle, Mailloux, Reinbacher and Hutson..

We will have a number 1D when we will see one of them do this in the NHL.

None of the 2024 Ds project as a surefire number 1D either until one does it. Does Dickinson have the offensive of a true 1D? Can Parekh have the 5on5 impact of a true 1D? Levshunov?

*Matheson number are those of a number 1 tho. TOI, usage, production, impact, etc.

That’s just speculation on your part about closer to picking Cooley, there’s no proof of that. And if that was the case, that would have been 100% due to Wright’s attitude than anything. Will Smith is just because Hughes has known him for forever and they likely wanted one of the top 4 forwards if one dropped.

There’s nothing about Catton that they value. Undersized, doesn’t contribute defensively. Bobrov has never taken such a player in the 1st round in his career. Unless you count Nils Lundkvist who was 28th overall.

Hughes said in a recent interview that it was Slafkovsky from the get go and it was pretty unanimous from the staff. With a Slovak media if i remember correctly.

Dont think they spent much saliva on this. Also, we made a big debate out of this, but in hindsight, for those who paid real attention. Those who watched their season in deep, who conducted interviews, Slafkovsky was the obvious pick.

Every team is like that, the skilled 6 foot + are rare and most often in the NHL. You have to draft 3-4 5'10 for one to succeed - that's why many of them are picked round 3 to 7. It's great that RHP became a NHL player.
RHP only has 62 NHL games played which means he's not counted as having making it when it comes to draft position success % yet...

And teams end up drafting a lots of everything to finish with very little to show up for it in the end.

I know that, RHP will likely reach the line...

The strategy of drafting talented but small players as you go deeper in rounds is a smart one because you can grab players that others teams have not chosen on size alone. Lane Hudson was a 1st round talent for example. Gallagher is another example.

Every team should show their cards after 3 years.
What i mean by cards is their list of draft, at least the first 100 picks.
That would show us a bit if the scouts are good or not.

Loved to see Timmins last 10 years draft.

Greenway is crap. Coyle is crap. Hagel is crap. None of them belong on a 1st line.
They are crap? I would have like Coyle in my team any day. He has 50 pts righ now. Anyway. I decided to took every first line. If you want best producer to buffalo instead of Greenway, Mittelstad 6ft1, Stamkos 6 ft1 instead of Hagel…

I don’t have a problem to get smaller guys with later pick. on a contender line up. I don’t want 5/ 6 players sub 6 ft, especially on top 6. Caufield is enough. And btw I really like Caufield. But overall, tiny guy is like cherry on fruit salad. You don’t want too many of them.

Could it be because of his family name ? Personally since I didn’t really follow the prospect this year, I do need to say that I’m biased because of that
I think it's heavily due to the fact we skipped on Brady Tkachuk and in the back of people's minds they're afraid it'll be a similar situation if we pass on Iginla and he develops into a premier power forward.

He could become 6ft 1, and more than 200 pounds un the NHL. 42 goals in the WHL.. catton has 45. Both are good picks imo. But I don’t know. Maybe juste the name, I could see Iginla grow and fit very well in the NHL next few years

And not just in the lineup but in the pipeline!

Mysak
Kidney
Kapanan
Mesar
Beck
Guindon
Farrell
Rohrer
RHP

What we have…. Xhekaj and Tuch who we are hoping to project as big skilled forwards?

Need that balance
I don't know if you were being sarcastic but
Kapanen is 6'1
Kidney 6'
Beck 6'
Mysak 5'11"

All at average or above average height. So they're not deficient in that aspect. As for weight, well, Suzuki muscled up, I don't see why those players can't.

At the same time if he have the competitiveness and the caracter of his father it’s a great news

There are cultural aspects to character and compete, but I'm always sceptical that both can be communicated to the next generation - because both are "muscles" that have to be built by each person. Now it doesn't mean he didn't do it for himself, but that would not be the character/compete of his dad, but his own (better).

All that to say: judge him on his own merits and facts vs. projecting things from his father onto him.

I would pick :
Jeremy Wilmer with our 5ft rd pick
Quinn Hutson with our 6th
Then Celebrini when we win the lottery
Lane Hutson we have
Luke Tuck we Have

Boston in MTL !!!!

Not high on Iginla as much as I am Catton if we are picking 7-10 am I crazy
No, you're not crazy but I don't think the Habs will draft Catton. He's not going to supplant either Suzuki or Dach at center, so you're looking at a 5'11', maybe 175-180 lbs, wing? I just don't see HuGo being too interested in that. Sure, if he was a Patrick Kane level player . . . but he doesn't appear to be,

To me there's a fairly low level of uncertainty that Iginla becomes a middle six NHLer. I think he's got the athleticism, skills, and hockey sense to do it, and the details of the pro game will come to him.

I just really question his offensive potential ceiling. I don't see a high level of vision in his game. I don't project him as a player that's able to consistently create and exploit weaknesses in team's defensive positions to create scoring opportunities with high skill plays. He seems to have a knack for creating space for himself and teammates on-puck and off-puck, but it's what he does with that space - that's where I see limitations in playmaking.

I have Catton and Helenius ahead of him at the moment.

Not sure why we keep bringing up height. It’s not just about height, it’s about weight and strength. Yeah Crosby is under 6 feet, but what 6’4 defender is going to knock him on his ass? None, since he weighs like 210 lbs. same with Suzuki, he’s less than 6 feet tall, but he’s built like a brick shithouse. Or Kessel if you want to stay with the Pens of old, another that’s just heavy. Their only small player was Sheary. And these guys were always just built different and heavier.

The problem is players like Marner that are small and light, then they become ineffective. Sorry but Catton falls into that category. If you’re 165 lbs now, you’re not going to magically gain 35 lbs and be the same player.

I'm ready for the clap backs that crosby is generational and special and fitness freak and whatever lol
I'm just I'm JUST saying, its always possible

Depends on the person and work ethic, and dedication to greatness (but that last part is 1 in a million)

I have seen MANY cases of people getting significant weight gain after hitting puberty. It seems like people have never been 17 years old before. I have seen football player going from skinny LB in high school to monster DL in the NFL within 5 years or less. We also have seen frail hockey player become strong and top star players. Oversized and more physically mature player always get overdrafted. I do not know Catton work ethic or desire to get better/stronger but if he puts the work and he is committed, it is possible that could add 30 pounds to his frame. Personally I am WAY more worried by players already physically mature as they have less chances to further grow.
