The worry is he becomes another zadina tho. At the time of his draft, lots of people had zadina at 3 and he ended up going 6. Nobody wants a one dimensional player unless they're good defensive players like Pacioretty. That's my issue with taking him instead of a more dynamic player. Also if all the forwards you really liked are gone by the time you pick, there's something wrong with picking one of the top D and then trading for a young elite forward with a lucrative package
The guy has done nothing but score his whole life though. He’s about to break Caufield’s record and I think CC is a future 50 goal guy.

Can skate, has decent size…

First of all, Caufield was picked at 15 not possible at 5,6 or 7. But still he'd be a good pick there too. Unlike zadina, Caufield has pretty good skating and hockey IQ. Dude also puts in a lot of effort and doesn't float. And although eiserman is a great scorer, Draft eligible Caufield was way more hyped as a scorer.

Also everyone's glad habs have Caufield, but why would they want two players that's are so similar. It's different with defence (having a Dickerson and Guhle, etc) but offensively, wouldn't the Habs be better to pick a type of player with the skill sets that their forward group is missing? Like a more dynamic player in the mold of kaprizov, Cooley, Keller, etc
Because having two big goal scorers is better than one. Imagine having one on each line. Who do you put your checking line out against?

My head keeps going back to Brett Hull who was a one dimensional player but killed it. I’d hate to miss out on that.

Again, up to the scouts. Maybe he’s the next Zedina or Shane Wright… I’ll defer to their judgement.

I wonder how worrisome it would be to not take him.

I will rely on the scouts. I don’t watch the minors and don’t have a strong opinion other than I want elite talent. No matter who we take I’ll be good with it. And I understand that Eiserman has been disappointing this year. Maybe he’s a slacker to be avoided.

But the upside seems to be there. The guy is a natural goal scorer. Brett Hull was a very one dimensional scorer but he’s an also a HOFer. It scares me that we could pass on élite goalscoring talent.

MSL is a really good developmental coach too. Maybe he takes this guy and molds
him into a better player.

Or… maybe this guy likes booze and video games. Maybe we should just pass on him. I don’t know. But he’s going to be a player I’m going to track when this draft is over.
Passing on Eiserman 2nd OA to 8OAish, fine, he did not progress like he was expected to. Passing on him in after that range? Lunacy (Imo, of course). He's a special talent and the Habs locker-room seems drama free and welcoming compared to previous seasons, so he could develop here surrounded by a great group and staff.

I'm not saying he's gonna be bad, I'd just prefer demidov, Lindstrom, celebrini, or any of the top D men slated to go near 5

I look at the CC Suzuki combo and they’re much better with a Dach or a Slaf who’s pushing the play and retrieving pucks. So I’ll understand if we go for a player in that vein.

But….

What have we been saying forever? We need a franchise scorer. That’s all we ever hear around here. Is Lidstrom that guy? Is Catton? I don’t know. But it’s hard for me not to think that Eiserman will be anything but a top goal scorer at the very least. Moreover him training with MSL would only help.

Shutt and Lafleur, Richard and Boom Boom… it’d just be so cool to have that kind of scoring in the lineup. Dach with the two Cole’s, Nick with Slaf and Roy… my God we might actually be able to have a strong offensive team.

And what if Eiserman doesn't become those HOF goalscorers that you listed and ends up being a Mike Hoffman? Even though Eiserman is better, I look at a guy like Oliver Wahlstrom who everyone thought would be a lethal goalscorer in the NHL and he's been a massive dud so far.

Yep. That’s why I’ll defer to the scouts. I wanted Shane Wright because of his resume and was way wrong. He went fourth and still hasn’t really established himself yet.

I put a premium on goalscoring though and I hope our scouts do too. But as I said earlier, maybe he likes beer and video games more. I don’t know.

I don’t watch these guys and don’t have strong opinions here. I’ve seen one game (he was amazing) but I don’t pretend to know anything more than his stat sheet and what I’ve read.

I’m sure the scouts hated Brett Hull. Couldn’t skate, bad conditioning… but damn he turned out to be incredible. 5th round pick who’d probably go 3rd overall (maybe 2nd) behind Mario and Roy - and ahead of Robitaille. Eiserman’s still coming in 2nd in a lot of lists too.

Is 6'1 too short for goalies now? During the last game I saw of Guindon's they were hyping up his teammate Carter George.

Are we in a good position with the 7th overall (if things stand) or do we need to drop further in standings to get a high potential prospect?

Pretty good position I would say. As always, we can't be sure who they like/who others like.

I feel quite confident Helenius will be there. Maybe Catton. Almost certainly Iginla. Those are 3 interesting names for Montreal, in that order for me. There are also some very good defensemen available at that spot, although it is unlikely to be Montreal's choice. Potential on Demidov and Lindstrom may be a bit higher, definitely very intriguing packages and they are very unlikely to be available, but the gap isn't that big that I couldn't imagine a scenario where the above guys end up better than the below ones.

Assuming that Celebrini, Demidov and Lindstrom are off the board when we pick, but Eiserman is there, it’s a no-brainer to take him. I’ve seen him play in person and he can literally score from anywhere inside the blue line, from any angle. That can’t be taught or learned.
Doesn't sound like he fits Hughes culture.

I'm gonna go against the general feeling that we're in good position in a 7th or 8th spot, and say we need to be in the 5th spot.

Much like last year, there's a small definite pocket of elite forwards at the very top consisting of Celebrini, Demidov and Lindstrom. 5th would pretty much secure one of the last two.
6th and on I would be far less confident, just like being outside the top 3 in 23', even with this draft being D heavy.
