Silayev would be hard to pass on imo... I'd probably take Parekh after that because RHD are at a premium
I haven't seen enough of Silayev but from what I have seen from Buium he would he a hard player to pass on at 7. I don't think either make it that far though. If so I hope they take him.

Yeah when he said he wants sustained success I'm sure he thought trading the pick is what he had in mind. You know Dorion was the previous GM eh. That's who traded the last 2 firsts. That's who has been blowing it for this franchise. Staios took over in September. Hasn't made one detrimental move. What a strange comment.
Getting bent over a barrel on his first trade was not a good look.. I wouldn't say detrimental though.

Locking up Travis Green for the next 4 years is pretty detrimental to the team's growth and success.

My point is that his first couple moves with the team have been head scratchers for sure.

Happy we didn’t fall.. with the way the rankings are looking sens likey going to draft their 3rd or 4th ranked prospect
THAT does not mean too much! Drafting 7th is good and we should get a good player there IF SS does not f it up!

The “tiers” never really work out as planned. You can always find good players in the top 10. Remember when we justified picking Boucher at 10 because the “elite 9” were gone, only for a bunch of really good players to be picked from 11-20?

It’s up to management to not be dumb about it.
We have not seen many "smart" moves so far.

Stayed in the same spot as did everyone.
I think that result is what the draft should be. Get rid of this lottery BS!

Yeah, someone put together a table for the guys based on the info given, likely not 100% but close.

All of the top 6 guys, and one of Buium/Parekh were in all the scouts top 10’s, the other being in 9.

Yakemchuk was in 2/10 top 10’s, but was 4th and 5th in those.

Sennecke was top 5 once and twice top 10.
The counts in the top 10 are in the right most column (small numbers)
Top 5 10/10
Dickinson, Parekh, Buium all 9/10
Helenius 8/10 --
Iginla 5/10
Sennecke 3/10
Eiserman, Catton, Yakemchuk 2/10

2/10 scouts had Yakemchuk, Parekh and Dickinson in the top 5
1/10 had Buium and Sennecke in the top 5

0/10 had Catton, Eiserman, Iginla in the top 5.

Yes but the counts aren’t entirely accurate, we know that 7 were in all the scouts top 10’s, and only 5 are accounted for in the table.

I am just going off the table... Did not realize the table was wrong. so 2 of the 3 9s in the table are 10s I can see any of them being in there

I probably wasn't following.

Helenius with 8 is pretty impressive.

Yeah, was going to make a joke... Who could we trade our 7th OA pick for? I heard Mitch Marner was available...

Would be all time dumb to trade this pick given where this franchise is and how Dorion burned 3 straight top 10 picks.

This team desperately needs another elite d man. Levshunov won't be there at 7 unfortunately. Hoping they take Yakemchuk.

Dorion's history in the first round

2016 : Logan Brown 11th OA, gave up the 12th OA and a 3rd to move up. There was not a lot of great choices to make* at that spot but could have landed McAvoy or Chychrun

* Final 2016 Ranking - Matthews goes wire to wire as TSN's top prospect - TSN.ca

2017 : Shane Bowers 28th OA. Can't complain when you draft late in the first, it means good things happened. At least Dorion didn't destroy Murray's team too fast I guess, only Zibanejad was gone

2018 : Brady Tkachuk at 4th OA and Jacob Bernard-Docker at 26th OA. Hard to screw up on a Top-5 pick nowadays but a few teams did after us so I am grateful Dorion did well here. I like JBD but yeah, we could have done a lot better here.

2019 : Lassi Thomson at 19th OA (could have had the 4th OA pick but Matt Duchene's fiasco)

2020 : Tim Stutzle at 3rd OA, Jake Sanderson at 5th OA and Ridly Greig at 28th OA. This draft alone might be a better haul than all the rest of Dorion's drafting lol. It single handily gives us a chance at a future.

2021 : Tyler Boucher at 10th OA. Let's not talk too much about this.

2022 : traded the 7th OA pick (and a 2nd + 3rd) for Alex DeBrincat who is already gone and only have Boston's late 1st to show for it (and a 4th!)

2023 : traded the 12th OA pick and two 2nds) for Jakob Chychrun... pending return...

If you remove the 2020 draft, pretty much all we have to show for the 7 other Dorion drafts first rounds (where we could/should have picked Top-12 in six of these drafts) is Brady Tkachuk and Jacob Bernard-Docker. Let that sink in. Or well, maybe don't if you want to keep your peace.

I mean, that's during a SCORCHED EARTH REBUILD... It's just incredible that we got insulted for criticizing this GM's work.

Pretty sure Staios understands that a Dorion-assembled roster simply, intrinsically, cannot be good enough.

The rebuild is back on the menu. I can't see him trading away our first outside of a "can't pass up" offer (say we get Marner back).

Forfeit the pick and get it over with
Orrrrrr….hopefully there is a plan in action to appeal like NJ did years ago and they landed on their feet so to speak. Sort of a precedent, not exactly the same I realize, but if he goes to battle for the next couple of years, we may be able to negotiate a lesser evil. Our owner was sold a bill of goods that were not entirely put forthright by the vendor and the league

I'm not against getting Marner, but what contract is he looking for and would he sign in Ottawa long term?
