Normally I'd agree, but all the Russian kids worry me a bit. From what I understand, no NHL scouts have seen these kids live over the course of the season? That makes it really hard to properly evaluate them. That showcase their agent did at the combine is nice and all, but those aren't real games and conditions.

I have no doubt some of those kid will make the NHL and be good NHLers, but it's worrisome spending a top 10 pick on them when you don't have all the info you need on them.


Buium feels like an amazing pick. Not that flashy, but a leader on the blueline and the type of kid you win with. If Lidstrom's back issues are (permanently) fixed, he's another that would really fit the bill for us.

I don't think it mattered to the previous regime either. They drafted Russians that were playing in North America and they signed them as free agents at the NHL level.

The 'Russian factor' these days is simply that unless you have a domestic Russian scout you aren't getting any live views of these players. In one of his recent articles, Pronman said that a majority of teams have admitted to him that they haven't seen either Silayev or Demidov live. Just on tape.

It would take some serious stones to step up to the plate at 7 and pick a guy nobody on your staff has ever watched in person.

The only guy I don’t want at 7 is Parekh. He has too many red flags and he’s not the offensive play driving offensive defenceman many proclaim he is.

i mean look at chabot, he's great at that but not really an elite offensive defenseman. and look at fox, he never skates the puck up and he is an elite offensive defenceman.

Yes because McKenzie's list had him at #2. We need prospects at all positions and Demidov would be a great forward prospect to have. Similar for Silayev as Bob has him at #4.

I think we move down twice, once with Cal so they can draft Iginla & then with Philly so they can grab a D leaving us the 12th OA plus whatever we get from both those two teams to move down. And at 12th OA I think the Sens draft either Sennecke RW or Yakemchuk RD.

Not sure there has been any people stating something is happening for fact, not to mention Bob’s own words from his article, or the title of his rankings:

This year could easily end up like 2018 where a couple of players (Dobson, Bouchard) fell way too far compared to Bob's rankings.

I mean Helenius was ranked by 5/10 in the top 7 of the draft... but many mock drafts see him in the early teens.

Personally I really think it’s Iginla followed by Dickonson. (I don’t expect Lindstrom to be available when we pick)

Yeah I mean they are clearly trying to do all of these things. Buium is the pick if he is there. There's an outside chance he might be. I feel like one of him or Silayev falls and the obvious choice will be an option.

I think Parekh personally is the last player I want mentioned in the top 10. He has the highest bust potential of any player. He gets no separation with his skating. That's #1 for any offensive d man to break out and create moving the puck up the ice. I find it very interesting how Yakemchuks defenisve game is questioned and Parehks is not. He is a horrible d zone defender. In general he doesn't look like he even thinks about it. Atleast Yakemchuk boxes out and protects the house really well. Will lay the lumber.

I didnt like Parehks body language at all at the memorial cup. Seems like an immature player.

Inside the blue line he is electric. I think he ends up being a pp specialist that coach's won't trust 5 on 5. Kinda like Ghostesbeher.

I'd be really happy if they take Iginla if it's a forward. His skating and shot are phenomenal. He goes to the dirty areas and frankly he just has it. The bigger the game the better he got. Can't teach that.
