I read that article. Pronman talked to different scouts and they said the exact opposite opinion apparently. Some of the scouts Wheeler cited even said they hadn't even really paid attention to the top D because of their team's relative position in the draft. I have no idea about their methodology, so I take both a grain of salt. I am very confident that Yakemchuk has better hockey sense than Dickinson and much better offensive instincts. He creates plays.Dickinson is the product of a system.

But in the end, we will see.

Well you fill your boots with that. If it were me I would be 2nd guessing my strong stance on a player that 73% of the scouts polled like him least of the group

"As part of last summer’s Alex DeBrincat trade to Detroit, the Senators also have the 25th selection. Button likes Cole Beaudoin of the Barrie Colts to go in that spot, a “heavy, hard-playing third-line centre.”"

Bro, enough low offensive ceiling first round picks. It's really not that hard to get a good third line centre via FA or trades. Hell, we arguably already have one with Greig.

I am definitely taking Silayev as he is available. Parakh has super star potential and looking 3,4 years down the road he could be a great addition.
Buium would be a great choice too... Be nice to have that choice

If we take Silayev or Buium I would go Emery at 25

What do they project to be the best choices at # 1 to #7?

There were 19 WHLers invited to the combine and 14 of them were forwards, who are more likely to say a defenseman is more difficult to play against than another forward, and Yakemchuk is easily the best WHL defenseman in this draft over guys like Brunicke, Elick, etc...

You are making a pretty big mountain out of a molehill the other way around. I am going to trust the players that played against him over your opinion. His raw skillset screams top 10 pick. Players continue to develop and he has a longer development curve. You aren't drafting the player for right now you are drafting what they end up becoming.

He had 30 tucks! Thats why, and he was on a horrible team with no elite players to pass to. Unreal stuff you are coming up with now to discredit him. 30 goals and 70 points on a brutal squad in his draft year and you are holding it against him. Just wild. I am not saying there arent warts but some of the stuff you are coming up with seems to be an attempt to cherry pick a personal bias.

Someone is going to get a real good shut down type D man that will be a playoff warrior. Tanev/Volchenkoc 2.0

Dickenson feels like a man amongst boys type....looks great in junior but is neutralized quickly against men. And then a whole bunch of warts begin to show. The talk at the junior level about lack of hockey IQ is a massive red flag.

Parkeh feels a bit too boom or bust....if this was 2014, he'd be a top 5 pick with pure offensive D being in style. We're seeing now that even your top blueline sniper needs some defensive awareness if you want to win in the playoffs.

Lindstrom's back is a ref flag. Backs generally never get back to 100% once they're damaged.

Yakemchuk and Eiserman don't feel coachable enough for pro play. They might work out, but not worth the risk for us with our lack of blue chip prospects in the stable.

Iginla...I like the kid, but worry about expectations on his shoulders. I really hope he does not end up in Calgary. He'd be better off in a quiet market and build up his own name rather than living in dad's shadow.

The other kids in our range....kinda neutral overall. Still a bit bummed about losing out on the draft lottery. Celebrini was just what we needed here. Not sure who I want out of the remaining names....they feel a bit meh.

Hmm maybe I was too hasty typing up that post.

I think Greig has top 6 upside, so he was a good 1st round pick. I only meant that we don't need to go for another "solid 3rd line centre" when Greig is already at least that.
 
I think Parekh is small sized 6'0. I hope we don't draft him. I would hope that we can draft a bigger dman with a big wing span and strong defensively. Big lads are becoming important as the players are getting bigger each year.
Most of the analysts during the playoffs are talking about how important size is especially on defense.

The more I watch Parekh the less I like him. He gets many of his points by cheating up...hes a pretty big river boat gambler.

I don't actually think he is a play driving offensive d man. He has a real good first pass, but hes not a guy that will dangle F1 or carry the puck through the neutral zone, gain entry into the zone and setup.

He makes that first pass and lets his teammates gain the zone. If he has the puck and anyone goes near him he immediately gets rid of it.

Everyone knows his defensive issues, but some are correctable. He cheats so much by trying to jump on an odd man rush and he also takes himself way out of position too often. These are correctable however.

That being said, hes not someone im considering at 7. I woulnd't take him in the top 10 I think there are better players. I think some of us are enamoured with him because he is a RD.

Just pointing out the obvious reasons why he won "toughest player to play against" was due to clearly being the best defenseman in the WHL for this draft in the minds of the WHL forwards polled, which he obviously is. I'm not a fan and even I'll admit that he's the best WHL D in this draft by far.

His team couldn't keep the puck out of their net but their offense wasn't bad. The Hitmen were top 10 in goals scored, so the narrative that he was the only guy that could score on the team is very misleading.

Buium does this. I just dont think he's gonna be there by the time the sens pick.

I dont love Parekh either tbh I dont see the sens taking him. I think its going to be Dickinson he is going to play and be a good player. May not be a game changer but he is going to be a really solid player for a long time.

This is a D draft, take the D man. Good D men are so hard to find, dont over think it.

Buium is my #1 dman in the draft . I proclaimed that a little while ago. I think he’s superb

I rarely write this for dmen , usually it’s for forwards, but honestly if Parekh isn’t putting up points he just doesn’t do much to help.

Hes not shutting anyone down, he’s not driving play or gaining zone entries .

He looks like a PP specialist to me

I think that Buium could fall to Ottawa There is an outside chance but it would surprise me. It would be a welcomed surprise for sure. The top two picks are locks it gets interesting at Anaheim who has such a stacked prospect pool. They can just go BPA and pick whoever is highest. However i do feel like Silayev ends up there. But who knows... Hearing they like Yakemchuk too. Their D core doesnt have a big shut down D but they have alot of really good d men I see them taking someone with size.

1. Celebrini to San Jose
2. Levshunov to Chicago
3. Silayev to Anaheim
4. Lindstrom to Columbus
5. Demidov or Iginla to Montreal
6. Utah ? No idea what happens here could be Parekh, Yakemchuk or Iginla.... I think is Demidov is there they will take him. They have lots of LD prospects
7. Dickinson or Buium to Ottawa I think.

I'd draft Solberg over Dickinson.

Dickinson is just too vanilla outside of his elite physical tools. Nothing vanilla about Solberg.


Would you guys prefer Marc Methot or Anton Volchenkov?

When I read concerns about guys like Connelly I think back on stuff I did as a teen and even into my early 20s and realize I'd totally be in the same boat if it was all public knowledge.
