2024 NFC Divisional Round: (1) Detroit Lions vs (6) Washington Commanders

Yeah it's the 12 man play, the other gaffes, the trick plays, why Detroit is rightfully getting ripped in the national and local media today. Even with their injuries the oddsmakers and experts had Detroit a heavy favorite.

Washington was impressive, if I remember they played the Eagles well both games - if Philadelphia disposes of LA as they're supposed to it should be a good game next week. Old school.
I have Saquon PTSD. I don't want the Eagles. Even though the Rams have receivers that could gobble up Washington, Saquon has murdered Washington so many times over his career.

2nd half timeouts are extremely valuable. But it’s 4th down and your team would give them the first if you don’t call a TO. Either throw HC or Defensive Captain needed to call it.

Game was decided on turnovers. Neither team could stop the other in moving the ball, but credit Wash for getting turnovers.

On the Detroit side, I have no idea why their entire game plan wasn't just Gibbs, especially after it was clear he couldn't be stopped and Montgomery had nothing. Worst time for Jared Goof to show up as well, he was beyond awful. Rough one for Ben Johnson to end on.

Stuff like this gives me pause on Ben Johnson. He could win a Super Bowl like McVey as a head coach. Or he could be in the Mike Martz/Kyle Shanahan category.

Detroit was fortunate not to lose one, if not both coordinators last season. While both returned, no one can predict injuries. Which were historic. While they still should have won last night, their ceiling was the NFC title game. Even if they managed to move on, no way in the world do I believe this team could win the Super Bowl this season. Not with the defensive mash unit which lost another CB for the season early in the game.

I was never a believer in Goff but I'll eat my crow. He's been good for Detroit and was legitimately great for most of this season. But he was shit last night and got his bell rung on the pick 6. He deserves flack but it's impossible going into every game knowing you have to be perfect. Buffalo, unfortunately, is going to find out the same today or next week.

My father is a bigger fan than I am, has seen worse with this franchise and isn't mad about it either. Ended badly for him but they had been proven everyone wrong for months now. People will take a dump on them until moving on to the next topic.

It's just sports at the end of the day. Who cares.
