The 8 teams remaining represent 39 National Championships between them. 5 out the 7 consensus “blue bloods” of college hockey remain

All teams are within the 20 youngest rosters in NCAA hockey. 4 out of the 5 youngest rosters, BC, Denver, BU and Michigan State. 7 out of 11 youngest teams in NCAA hockey are left. Quinnipiac is the oldest team left at 19th youngest roster in college hockey with an average age of 22 years old

With transfer portal and NIL think this only gets worse. Looks like hockey is becoming NCAA basketball with so many one (or two) and dones and a handful of "haves" accumulating most of the talent while the majority of programs are left to fend for themselves.

How does this help players from either an academic or hockey development perspective?

Most of these 1 and dones never would’ve been playing in college hockey 15 years ago. There used to be 1-3 NHL draft picks per year who played college hockey back then. Now you’re seeing 5-10 of not more per year play college hockey. Kids only playing 1-2 years in college hockey has been going on for 30 years, there was just let talented players so it happened less. Couple that with how the NHL has embraced younger players coming in and impacting, leaving after 1-2 years is inevitable. I’d much rather see these kids play college hockey than play elsewhere. I’d also much rather watch younger players than rosters with an average age of 23.5

I could go on a whole tangent on the transfer portal but I’ve never heard a good argument for why kids shouldn’t be able to transfer

Because changing schools two and three times is conducive to attaining a meaningful education.

Very few one and done guys in college hockey anymore, unless you are really elite and dominant as freshman and have a clear spot in the NHL. Most NHL GM's and player agents now know that the sophomore year at school is a better development environment at 19 than the AHL is.

Makar, Q Hughes, Beniers, Caufield, Power, L Hughes, Boldy, K Miller, Faber, Knies, Sanderson, Knies just a few of the names in recent years to play two years and step right into the NHL (or in Faber's case 3).

As far as the portal, teams will adjust and some already have, just like in basketball. Teams like QPiac aren't going to recruit the equivalent of 5 star prospects from the NTDP, but you can build a winner with older Junior A players who will play from 20-23. And look at a team like NoDak who has been pretty heavy into the portal, they haven't had any tournament success in the portal era.

Cornell compounding Denver's offensive struggles, coming with the physical play like they did to Maine. Now the Pios have to kill a minor penalty. And they miss an opportunity on a shorthanded breakaway.

Denver is starting to pick it up offensively. Ian Shane looks dialed in for Cornell so far.

The Finn ties it up for Denver. Shane will want that back.

That happens occasionally, not NEARLY the most annoying aspect of sports media IMO.
I love the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament special where they have a lengthy tv timeout. Run one possession and then there's another whistle and a second lengthy tv timeout.

It still hurts my brain Ben Robertson wasn't drafted. I get he's not huge but with the way he skates and can see the ice, he should get picked this year
