Covington hasn't had a relevant win in years. Wins against Neal and MVP are far better than anything he has done recently, regardless how much you nitpick the performances. It's not like Covington finished a list of killers on his way to the top either.

The point about Garry not yet breaking into the top tier is also redundant, because if he beat Shavkat that would prove he belongs. It's not like he would be getting the actual title shot, it's a title eliminator more than anything, and trying to claim he's not yet in that conversation is bogus. Sorry but I'm not going to continue entertaining someone who genuinely thinks Colby deserves an interim shot more than Garry.
Edit: The above tweet renders this following post irrelevant so looks like Garry got his wish.

You're getting way too caught up with the Colby stuff, I really don't care if he never fights for a title again. The main point is that I want to see a championship caliber fight if an interim belt is on the line, i.e the best 2 fighters available in the absence of the champ. Not sure why you seem bothered by this conversation. Call it nitpicking all you want, it's looking at real performances and pedigree.

Shavkat is undeniable, he looks every bit of a potential world champion and dominated everyone on the way. The same can not be said of Garry. Usman, Edwards and Colby have only lost world championships at WW (in recent years) . JDM is a little less proven but finished a highly ranked WW so I have him slightly ahead of Garry at the moment.

I put Garry in the same tier as Buckley and Brady, knocking on the door but we have to see them against the top dogs before a belt is on the line imo. That is why I'd rather see Garry stick with his current matchup.

He hasn't demonstrated he can beat a top tier WW. Neal was a split decision and he looked bad against MVP, barely won a lackluster fight. Usman, Edwards and Covington are proven at the highest level, despite some losses. At least JDM has a finish over Burns. Garry has yet to break into the top tier.

If it's a non title fight then fair enough.

Colby is one of my least favorite athletes of all time but I don't think anyone in their right mind can deny his status as a top tier WW. He was right there with Usman both fights, yes the Edwards performance was a stinker but it was still 3-2. He's competitive at the highest level whether you like it or not.

Good for Shavkat taking that fight. Went from a title shot to a non-title fight against a lower ranked fighter. I actually like that they didn't put an interim title on the line because it didn't make a ton of sense with how long Belal is expected to be out. Regardless, it's just denying the inevitable as that belt is Shavkat's in no time.

I'm glad that Usman thing didn't happen. I can't stand this division with these former champs/challengers just squatting on their rankings thinking something is owed to them. Win a ****ing fight. Usman might even be worse than Covington's dumbass in that respect recently.

Buckley vs. Covington could be pretty good too. Hoping for one of those highlight reel Buckley finishes.

Nick Diaz is out of his fight again. Time to just call it a day and not book him again.

I find it amusing that you discredit Garry's status as a top WW for performances in fights he won, yet Colby is supposedly still a top WW for performances in fights he lost years ago. He did not lose 3-2 to Edwards either. He showed absolutely nothing until the final round. It wasn't close.

He is no where near the title picture. The only reason he could still be considered a top WW by any stretch is because he's been rank squatting and avoiding all the contenders calling him out.

Usman hasn't won a fight in three years.

Covington hasn't won a fight in 2.5 years and I believe the only current UFC fighter he has a win over is RDA.

The rankings are such a big problem in all of this too. Neither one of these guys should be ranked where they are or maybe even ranked period. Usman hasn't fought any of Shavkat, Brady, or JDM and is sitting there expecting a title shot. That's 3 of the top 5 WWs. They refuse to push him down or take him out of the rankings, it makes zero sense.
