OT: 2024 MLB Thread

He's obviously an excellent pitcher and as a lefty always a nice bonus, but it's an 8 year deal that starts when he's 30. I'd still like the Yankees to start building a younger team.
Yanks will be focusing on his first 4 years to try to win

Of course. With Judge in the same boat they have to win now. But the issue is the Yankees just patch and spackle with the next older UFA over and over. There is no reason they cannot do more to develop younger players. Beyond that, they have an organizational blind spot for big names and their lineup suffers when the few big guns in the lineup don't hit. They are maybe too obsessed with modern analytics where it's better to strikeout than try to manufacture a run? Now is the time to spend big on drafting and development.

So since missing out on Juan Soto, the Yankees have signed Max Fried, signed Devin Williams, and traded for Cody Bellinger. I hate to say it, but I think they needed a bit of humbling on the big free agent signing front. Too many other problems that need to be addressed, and that wouldn't be possible if they had gotten Soto.

It still hurts, though.

Just stop with the free agent frenzy and build a real team. They can outspend anyone else on drafting developing and scouting and they stubbornly refuse to give that element of the sport a chance even though it was what created their last dynasty.

It still feels like he was playing not too long ago. He must have played until he was 45.

Does he have the record for most teams played for in MLB history? He really got around.

There was nobody like Rickey Henderson. The gap between him and Lou Brock for the top two base stealers of all time would be good for number 47 on the all-time stolen bases list.
Henderson was revolutionary as a leadoff batter. He offered more than just the Lou Brock/Vince Coleman skillset. He was dynamic, he hit for power, he could get on base multiple ways, he had almost 300 home runs, and a lifetime on base percentage of over .400. That's insane. To oversimplify it over 40% of the time he was up he likely ended up at least on second base. And of course he was a fan favorite and people wanted to watch him play.
