To be expected type seasons yes. But at the end of the day, their true evaluation comes when they are full time pros (either AHL/NHL).

Beck is motoring along as expected in his 200' center game. Mesar had a good CHL season with his skill/skating.

I have a hunch that pieces like Mesar, Barron, Harris, Jets 1st are in play for our potential top 6F search.

I watched game 6 of the series and can say that Beck had another strong performance. He dominated the face-off circle, skated well and was able to create several scoring chances. He played in all game situations and was highly relied on in another elimination game. In my opinion, Beck's best play was his effort in catching up to Cowan on a breakaway and providing back pressure that threw off the newly announced OHL MVP's timing. There are few players in the OHL who could have caught Cowan. Beck showed that explosive straight forward speed that is already NHL level.

I wouldn't write off Saginaw quite yet as they battled a very strong London team pretty equally throughout the series. In a round robin style tournament that the Memorial Cup is, Beck and the Spirit have enough talent to beat any CHL team.

Beck had the kind of season you want from D +2 player after being traded to Saginaw, but he's had a really poor playoffs.

Mesar had an ordinary season, but a much better playoffs.

I think he was dinged up. Saw the SSM/Sag series on TV and LK/Saggy series live in London and tube in Saggy......
He has to get the diving out of his game. Was embarrassing at times. But I think it's a Saggy thing as it was prevelant by multi players in last 2 series and admitted to by their coach in public ( oops lol) .
I will say solid on the dot ( in spite of me thinking he was dinged up) and his line was by far the toughest match up n best line in the POs Ive seen Haight/Beck/Bloom.
Just not a fan of asking refs for help, esp when you're an Alist player.

Can't see Mesar as a FYT NHLer based on his OHL career n limited live viewings ( catch the Knights game live so see him a bit over reg season n POs) JMO but when push comes to shove he doesn't stand out in any way. JMO and maybe he wasn't interested in paying the price at thst level. Skilled.....

If Beck is injured, he should be resting for Memorial Cup. Ditto Parekh, and anyone else.

I understand wanting to get there on merit, but you're there anyway. At least be good and have your players ready.

The league championship is the one players ( I've talked to and seen in print ) value more so I get it.... playing.
A month or 2 grind of 4 rds vs a freebie entrance to a 1 week tourney? Easy choice as to which holds more value. JMO.

But agreed, if injured and potential to make it worse any player should sit at this age.

I don't think Beck is going to be the flashy type. Looks like a bottom 6 NHL player to me. Hopefully a solid 3rd liner who's good on both ends.

Nah, most high end players at D+2 are well over ppg even in playoffs. Someone like Wyatt Johnston had 41 pts in 29 gp in his D +1 year.

Nick Suzuki in his D+2 year had 42 pts in 24 gp.

Even Ryan Winterton put up 29 pts in 21 games in his D+2 year. Winterton was a 3rd round draft pick, who spent last season in AHL. He put up 35 pts in AHL this season.

Luca Del Bel Belluz has a November birthday, so he played this year in AHL, but was the same draft year as Beck and was picked after Beck. He put up 15 pts in 16 gp in his D+1 season, and had 31 pts in AHL this past season.

Beck has had a really poor playoffs as a D+2 player. Last year with Petes, he had 16 pts in 22 gp, so also less than ppg.

He looks more like a 3rd/4th line energy player right now who'll probably need AHL time. It's disappointing because I thought he might have mid-6 upside (2nd/3rd line) over bottom 6, especially since he was a decently high draft pick.

He's a similar player in a lot of respects to Fraser Minten. Bottom 6 pker, face-off specialist, energy guy, except Minten is bigger.

He's been destined to be a #3 C since he was drafted and that's very ok. He does all the little things right and chips in accordingly. Music to my ears for our club moving forward.

I still see middle six projection with Beck. He might not have a full package of elite offensive skills to produce near PPG at the NHL level, but he thinks the game at a high level at both ends of the ice and that's coupled together with strong skating and shooting ability.

Always hard for me to come up with NHL comparables for projection, but if I had to pick it would be someone like Chandler Stephenson. I think that's a valuable piece to have.
