The link doesn’t work.

I actually think Brewski playing in the AHL on the top PP is the right move. I just don’t see the point in signing Barrie when you have a 19 year old defencemen who can fulfill the exact same role as Barrie if Rasmus or Weegar get injured.

Random question about prospects... but who might be better out of the two of these guys in their full season NHL debut and long term?

Emil Heineman
William Stromgren

I'd lean towards Stromgren for 2 reasons. Similar AHL production last year despite being a year younger, and with his added size he can play a bit more physical

I can't disagree with this more. Bruz has looked very good in camp no doubt, but it is far better to play him 20 minutes a night in the AHL than 10-13 on the 3rd pair in the NHL. Barrie allows us to keep doing that even if Weegar/Andersson get hurt. He just graduated from the OHL and we are expecting to suck this year. We are much better off playing him with the Wranglers who will probably be quite good.

If we assume that Barrie is getting signed, and the 3 guys waived today are reassigned to the Wranglers when/if they clear, then we'll be down to 27 men, still 4 to cut. Those 4 will likely be Cooley and 3 forwards

I think we are waiting to waive Cooley until the last possible moment with the Bruins grabbing Patera from the Canucks and IMO Cooley is a better goalie.
With Barrie now signed it is very likely that Hanley gets waived over one of the forwards. Absolutely try and sneak him through waivers with everyone else but no reason to hold onto him over like Rooney, especially since we are so deep on dmen and weak at center.

Tinordi, Hanley, Hunt, Rooney, Duehr, Schwindt and one of Honzek/Klapka/Coronato would give us the space to hold Cooley until the first game of regular season, if we wanted teams to commit to 23 before waiving Cooley.

With Huska, I dunno. IMO, there's a chance he considers 8 dman and 12 forwards instead and play #3-6 by committee (all in over their heads). In the event of an injury on a road trip for forwards, just start double shifting the kids to see if they can handle stronger comps and higher TOI. It's a great training and showcase moment. At best, the kids develop exponentially. At worst, they all still try hard and we add a higher calibre talent to this group for next season.

I like the sound of starting the season with three goalies on the roster. We have plenty of ways to make that happen with the number of waiver exempt players that we on the roster right now plus a lot of AHL/NHL tweener players that I wouldn't lose sleep over if they were claimed.
I'll go one step further than you... I like the idea of having three goalies on the roster for the first three weeks or so of the season. Normally this is a terrible idea for a competitive team in a normal season. But we aren't and this isn't. Why gamble exposing a player that is beginning to show some promise when we don't have to?
