Watched both games. Honzek was the best player on the ice against the Oilers. Thought he was exceptional again the Kraken too. His speed size combo is deadly. He’s making ridiculous passes and shielding pucks. He might make the move to C after this season with his skillset. He could be a special player in a few years IMO. Crazy what a little confidence will do.

Mostly just happy it looks like they're going to have a competitive camp. An NHL team, even one in a rebuild, should be hard to make.

Not sure where Coronato is going to fit but he should be on the opening night roster, and preferably in the top 6.

"AHL Contract" doesn't count as one of our 50 SPC's does it? I feel like Lipinski should make the AHL team this year but by my count we have 49/50 and Barrie isn't signed yet

No, AHL contracts don't count towards the 50 contract limit. That said, neither will the contracts of Morin, Brzustewicz, Honzek, Lipinski (if signed), Parekh and Gridin unless they play more than 9 NHL games as they are still eligible for contract slides

I'd be curious myself.
I haven't had time or want to watch the three games so far; but he looked mediocre in the Young Stars Tournament... but seeing this stat line is promising. Wondering how is play is going outside of the apples.
Mediocre isn’t overly fair, he had pretty good showings (while not being the flashiest) his last two games including a point to show for it in each of them. Can definitely tell he’s very cerebral though, now that there’s a semblance of structure his game is shining more and more. From the pre-season games, nobody will accuse him of being a passenger he is actively creating opportunities with his speed, size, and brain. Which is crazy, because he is still a relatively scrawny kid and has plenty of weight, power, and co-ordination to add to his game before being a remotely finished product. He was always a long term project, and him showing these flashes is very impressive this early in his development.

Said it before and I’ll still say it again, highest upside forward prospect we have. Realistically think Coronato or potentially Gridin (another high upside, not safe projection) could end up better, but if he hits his potential nobody we have comes close.

so with Morin being reassigned to the Q that should open up a contract slot right? The others you mentioned are all still maybes for a slide

It's only pre-season blah blah blah, but good to see the top scorers so far are our recent first rounders (Zary, Honzek and Coronato). Bru just keeps putting up assists, the kid is going to be a player for a long time. Flames are doing what they need to to become competitive going forward, built the d-core early and hope we can get some franchise forwards in the next couple drafts.

I still don't think we're going to be that bad this year, team just has too much talent. Maybe not enough for the playoffs or to make a run, but I'm closer to thinking we'll be handing our 1st to Montreal more so than keeping it.

technically none of those count until their 10th NHL game, so it's the opposite, they are slides until their ELC begins which is either their 10th NHL game or July 1 of their 20 year old season.

I haven't been able to watch, but with 5 assists in 2 game I must know more about Honzek's play in those games.
He's been really solid. It's clear he still needs to add some weight, he's 6'3 and 180 pounds. BUT, he is using his size to help protect the puck, he's not afraid to get a bit physical, and his brain/IQ is definitely one of his best weapons. That's all skills that you can't teach (or teach easily), and are less likely to be hampered by injuries (which is good considering his last year). That said, I wouldn't be surprised if he plays around 10-15 games this season assuming he starts in the AHL instead of being sent down to juniors for his overage season.

How has sam morton looked? Any chance of an NHL career?

I thought he was a pleasant surprise. Not the forerunner for an NHL job vs our other prospects, but if he keeps developing and increases his consistency, I think he could be an NHL regular one day. There's flashes of some good stuff from time to time.

I am actually a bit surprised about Gridin. His game looked pro ready to me, but the Wranglers will be a very young team as it is and only so many roles are available, so I can understand that decision. He is going to absolutely torch the Q.

Im surprised too. Both on the early send down and to the Q. Guessing the Flames had an agreement with the team to not send him to the AHL.

Axel is just walk across the hallway. haha.

Do you guys think it's still healthy for all 3 teams to be the same market/rink? As in the flames/wranglers/hitmen, not to mention the roughnecks as well.

Seems like the Hitmen and/or Wranglers need a personal home. Should have Reno'd or built another stampede corral at 7-8K IMO.

With the community rink morning skates/practices are less of an issue as basically those teams take up the day time slots if it's not a game day, but there's only so many friday/saturday night for those 4 teams and the NLL only plays on weekends.

I'm curious if they've asked him to round out his game while still working to improve his NHL ready attributes.
