Really a shame that we couldn't just keep Carter Savoie.. He would've still been close to a top 10 prospect and played with his bro.

Wow only at 7 and already down to question will they ever play in NHL
To me I think a bunch will probably see NHL action, but will it just be more than a handful of games because of injuries or because they actually are close to being a NHL player.

Unlike other years barring massive injuries how many guys should actually see action the next few years? For the most part Stanley Cup contenders aren't going into the season with a ton of holes to plug so you really are bringing guys up that are NHL ready.

When your team has less holes you really aren't trying all sorts of guys out trying to find something to work. Unlike some of those years where we were playing 35(excluding goalies) plus guys over a course of a year hoping someone would come up and still a spot. That and you aren't giving guys a 9 game look before sending them back to junior as you are so desperate to fill a hole.

Lots of mystery prizes in this shallow prospect pool. Curious about Pracey's approach which from a few interviews sounds like there's a strong information based approach to supplement eye testing. Pracey's first draft tilts to best draft pool source in the world, the OHL, which is where his personal expertise is. Players like O'Reilly and Clattenburg seem to target support role niches (3C and an aspirational bottom 6 heavy game, energy player). Sounds like they were locked in on Vinni at late 2nd round.

Still worthwhile dice throws signing at junior skill guys like James Stephan. The Grubbe trade I think was a good one. Munzenberger, a reasonable projection dice roll, on a big, good skating shutdown type with national team pedigree.

Oil have the hard to find and get elite skill positions locked up at centre and Bouchard on defense. The draft and development function can look for support pieces while still sprinkling some looks at pure skill.

Bulking up their European scouting and modernizing their development function are both critical with the thin system and few draft picks anticipated through this short-term.
