This was something several of us just learned. I thought he'd be ineligible too, but Ryan Pike is saying that because he was signed before the deadline and was in the CHL he's eligible... where as Suniev is not eligible because he signed (for this year) after the deadline, but had he signed starting next year and then signed an ATO he could have joined the Wranglers too.

The thing with Kulak is that he is a 2nd chance player. Every single team lets these kind of guys go, just to see them figure it out somewhere else. He was a late bloomer, it's the exact same risk Calgary took with Miromanov and Pachal. Hell it was the same risk we took with Jake Bean. Look at Carter Verhaeghe, or Jalen Chatfield.

What, no he wasn't. He was a solid homegrown defenceman that was given away because Treliving threw a tantrum over his contract.

Bean was given away from the Hurricanes then went unqualified by the Blue Jackets. This is his 3rd chance and he's unsurprisingly still rubbish. Miromanov & Pachel, sure 2nd chances but again, that's the fear based inferiority complex from the Flames. Other teams trash is gold and worthy of a chance while the Flames own prospects are always never good enough.

But this isn't about 2nd chances, it's about primary chances

Put him in the last 5 games, heavily sheltered. Let him and the team see what he needs to work on over the summer in real time. 10-15 mins a night on the third pairing and some PP time.

I feel like you didn't read what I said at all. Your whole argument is how Kulak has turned out. Yeah he's a decent #5, so what? Yes he's made an NHL career post Calgary but he's still just a guy. Did Tre mess that up? Maybe, but in the grand scheme of things it's irrelevant. You are complaining about the Flames blocking their prospects by signing vets. Solo will get an NHL shot but at the end of the day he is still just a guy. This isn't like Parekh playing another year in the OHL where he's far too good for the league. Solo is not "too good for the AHL," he's simply improved to the point where he deserves a shot at the NHL level ( which I have no problem with), but he hasn't done anything to prove he is better than the guys who are currently on the NHL roster in his stead We had 2 legitimate NHL defensemen going into this season, and a bunch of other guys still in their mid 20's we gave shots to. Bahl has been great and earned a top 4 role, Pachal has been solid, Miromanov completely fell off from how he was at the end of last year, and Bean has been hit or miss depending on the night. Solo got a shot and was very mediocre in his stint.

The rules of the league are you can simply only hold onto a players rights for so long, every team has had players that went elsewhere and succeeded. You are just so fixated on the Flames ones you can't see the forest for the trees. Literally just click on any team's roster. Colorado has Toews and Nichushkin, New jersey has Cotter and Kovacevic, LA has Trevor Moore, Dallas has Sam Steel, Toronto has Benoit, Washington has Strome and Thompson, etc

It's disappointing to see this team continuing to be overly cautious and undervalue the youth in the system. It happened with Zary and Posp not making the team out of camp last year, and they are only NHL regulars today because of injuries to other players. Two seasons ago they could've done something about Markstrom shitting the bed by giving Wolf a ride to try to make the playoffs but they didn't want to rush him. Andersson only became a full-time NHLer because Hamonic got injured early that season.

I get he's a D-man and everything but seriously what do you lose in sheltering him in the 3rd pair with Pachal and giving him PP time? The idea that it'll ruin his development if he makes a mistake and costs the team is overblown. If he's the type of player to bust after something like that then he's going to bust regardless, but fortunately he seems the type of person to use it as motivation to get better.

As a fan I just wish they'd have put him in, I feel like the best players should play. Ice time according to ability and performance, two things our blueline has clearly been lacking all year. Ultimately it's not the end of the world that Parekh doesn't play in this game against the Minnesota Wild on April 11th, 2025. Just wish this franchise could let go of their love affair with character 'good in the room' plugs and commit to believing in their amateur scouting.

Calgary has 2 regulation losses in our last 13 games, with one being highway robbery and the other being the last of 3 games in 4 nights. In what world has this team went stale, they are playing their hearts out to make the playoffs at what would be a 120 point pace over a full season.

Not questioning the team's effort at all, and my comment was directed more at their offensive inconsistencies in the recent stretch. Going even further than the last 13 games, since March 1 we've been a top 10 team and #1 PK% but 27th in GF/G and 22nd in PP%. You can't deny this team recently looked stale offensively and has been most of the season. During this recent stretch I've seen too many momentum-killing moments from failed PPs because we don't have a true PP quarterback.

Minnesota's planning to put Buium right into the lineup because they need a spark and believe he is ready for the challenge. In the meanwhile, during what's considered the most important stretch for this team, Bean and Pachal have been bottom 5 in ice time alongside the 4th line. Taking Bean out for Parekh is not going to affect this team negatively nor affect his development.
