I would say less than 10, then a large group that would love to win one, but are content being in the mix for the playoffs, and a handful at the end that just don't care, more or less a bell curve

I'd say these guys are the serious ones currently, with varying levels of success of course

Buffalo
Baltimore
KC
Houston
Philly
Detroit
GB
SF
I'd throw a few teams in there that are clearly trying to win, but are missing something integral to make it work; LA, Miami, Minnesota, Washington (especially with their new ownership) and then probably Pittsburgh as well.

Stephen Ross is an idiot as Dolphins owner but i will absolutely not question everything he does is in a good faith attempt to win a super bowl. Dude is willing to open the wallet to buy an army to do it, but is sadly unaware you can't buy championships these days.

McCarthy can get to the playoffs and the Bears, Jets, and Jaguars can’t.

That's akin to saying that a bad driver in a Bugatti can defeat a great driver in a rusty Oldsmobile in a drag race. Sure, but all that's evidence of is that the Bugatti is a much better car, and McCarthy can be carried by significantly more competent organizations like Dallas and especially Green Bay versus the punchlines that are the Bears, Jags, and especially Jets.

A coach that doesn't doesn't self-sabotage too much doesn't really account for much for organizations already self-sabotaging way more than any one coach can.

Vrabel to NE is the worst kept secret, yes? From the outside it seems like both sides want each other and the rest is just for show.

Yep! Vrabel only interviewed with the Jets to put pressure on Kraft to fire Mayo.

Now the Pats are getting their Rooney Rule requirements out of the way today by interviewing Byron Leftwich and Pep Hamilton, then they'll interview Ben Johnson to just make it look like a legit HC search, with Vrabel "interviewed" and hired by this time next week.

I posted this on HFHawks, but posting it here too:

Breer still has a finger on the pulse for the Patriots. This tweet doesn't seem like denying the idea that they're rushing through the process, but rather condemning that that's exactly what they're doing.

What the Patriots need to do is remove anything of the Belicheck era. Start fresh, new identity, go through the process of what this team is all about.

The risk for them and any club wanting to wait for Johnson is that the next best guy (Vrabel) could be signed before that. So, might miss out on the top 2 guys if that does happen. So, it does put pressure on making a move. But, really, the NFL should do better to allow coaches of teams still in PO to get their fair shot to interview.

But, I do get teams wanting to move as there will and have been NCAA hirings and staff changes, so if these HC candidates have people they want to bring aboard, they want to be able to offer them a job before they sign or extend with another team or at least give their club time to find someone else. Plus other clubs are making moves at other coaching positions already. Cincy fired DC, Sea fired OC. More to come I'm sure.

Why would Ben Johnson consider going to New England? The most attractive HC opening is in Chicago, so if I were him I wouldn't sign anywhere before that door has closed - and even less so with the Patriots, Jaguars or Raiders.

NE has Maye. So, to me, I'm going to a team with a QB. So, no to Jets and Raiders. Saints, I kind of know what Carr is now. Not interested. So, it should be between Chi, NE, Jax (with Jax 3rd clearly).

Chi has better weapons at WR, but both with shaky OL.

Also have to consider the front office and management. Man, this cycle doesn't seem that great. And remember, he passed on wash last season who have turned it around with Daniels.

So they gave him a whole two seasons to turn the team around.
GM also drafted Levis, who doesn't seem to understand how to take care of the football. One thing to throw picks into tight windows, but he's doing things where a HC is saying wtf was that QB?

Team has not recovered since they decided to not pay AJ Brown.

You pick a bad quarterback, yes, that’s about all you get. You can’t screw that one up. I guess other than Trent Baalke.
Took a flyer in rd 2 in Levis who fell. Worth the shot. Be a different story had he used the Skoronski pick instead on Levis in rd 1.

The Titans have a terrible track record developing QBs. They have a terrible track record developing offensive players in general other than RBs. A. J. Brown was a rare exception but they traded him so that he could become even better elsewhere.
