Perfect pick for the Blackhawks in the 3rd round. Elite speed, offensive threat on the PK, physical, football mentality. Spellacy is basically a Michael Grabner/Josh Anderson hybrid. He is good for a clean cut breakaway or two per game. If he continues to progress, he will be a big part of winning a Game 4 or 5 in a playoff series when you are contending again with Bedard, Levshunov, & the rest.

was top 25 in Hits Lead the league in SH goals and when he switched to center at the end of the year had 10pts in 10 games.

AJ didn’t meet his agent and skills and development coach, Kenny Ryan, a 2009 second-round NHL Draft pick and skills coach at the University of Michigan, until he was 15. The first time he ever spent an offseason skating was just two summers ago before his 16-year-old rookie season in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires. When the Spitfires drafted him in the spring of 2022, he was on an unofficial visit to Ohio State’s football program and receiving scholarship offers from Iowa State, Illinois State, Central Michigan, and Toledo.

Can't wait to see his progress this year......Mustard and Spellacy could be better than Boisvert and Venacker when it's all said and done......could be another franchise changing haul by KD.
Yeah I’m excited about Spellacy given the relative infancy of his complete immersion into hockey. He has a lot of room to grow.

Vanacker also is exciting…played hurt and still was impressive.

Boisvert I didn’t want, but willing to see what develops.

Mustard to me looks like an energy bottom sixer, but those guys can surprise, particularly with his speed.

The Need for Speed

this was the only pick they made this year i was really happy with. excellent value for the third round.

His size physicality and skating will make him an NHL player. Its just a matter of how good can he be. Exciting.

Pierre Engvall/Matt Martin
Adam Lowry/Lawson Crouse/Dakota Joshua
Jamie Benn/Brady Tkachuk

If there were a re-vote for HF Blackhawks 2024 top 20 Prospects , I'm guessing he'd finish several spots above where he was voted in at #20. His name wasn't even added to the poll until after the top 5 prospects were selected. His first vote came in at around prospect #12.

I think the absolute highest he could get to, in terms of archetype, is Roope Hintz. A mean Roope Hintz.

Which would be absolutely insane obviously, don't know if he has that kind of skill level.

Hintz has always had more offense in his scoring profile. Spellacy won't likely put up 70 pts+ seasons, but could settle in with Josh Anderson or Tom Wilson 40-50 pts a season type production

100%, no one has the ability of hindsight

Really impressed, he was an injury replacement to the Summer Showcase when Trevor Connelly was ruled out. To go from that to making the Selection Camp is a testament to how far he's come since then. He might be able to sneak in as the Injury Replacement for the final roster.

Might well earn a spot outright if he brings that football aggression and his speed to the tryouts. Would be great for his development. He has what teams covet, and if he puts it all together, watch out!
