They might but they won't.
I could see it going either way, in the end sure they can be spiteful and say no, but given the trip it seems like what they want out of it is good PR. If they are being petty about letting Demidov go we can be petty and have Lecavalier "let slip" how they thought the facilities in SKA were subpar. So SKA is probably better off playing nice so that we also play nice in the PR realm.

Philadelphia is a major and historic American city. With a popular of 6.2 million, it's roughly one and a half times Montreal in size. It has teams in every sport and is in between DC and NY and in close proximity to both.
What I can think of. They’re not an original 6, but basically the next best thing. During the mid Seventies near the time of the USSR-Canada summit series Flyers had some kind of (small) dynasty. The Broad Street Bullies. And Bobby Clarke famously broke the ankle of Valeri Kharlamov…

Go in San Jose , Tampa Bay or Columbus and do the obnoxious Habs fan shtick you’ll be fine. Try in Philly, you’ll get the shit kicked out of you. Some Flyers fans are rabid.

Cope? Wtf, I'm Habs fan and a huge Demidov fan, there's nothing to cope about. Keep the weak replies for the main board.

He got most of his points on the third line playing with Kuz, hardly a bad linemate. And yes, he often got points by being used as exploitation. No rookie gets to top the league in +/- without exploitation time, nor without sheltering.

It doesn't remove anything from what Demidov is doing as he's played great wherever he's been in the lineup, including the top 6, but no way does his p60 mean he's better than Kaprisov. Only time will tell.
Kaprizov played in CSKA in TOP 6 with excellent partners. Demidov is playing with Bardakov and Plotnikov since 12/27 2024 and scored 4 goals and 4 assist (8) in the three games, include 2+1 (3) +2 against CSKA.

Now SKA will play against Spartak (01/08, 5 p.m - Moscow time), Dynamo (01/11, 5 p.m.- Moscow time), Lokomotiv (01/13, 7:30 p.m. - Moscow time), Severstal (01/16, 7:30 p.m. - Moscow time) and 01/21 (7:30 p.m. - Moscow time).

Dynamo and Lokomotiv are TOP teams, Spartak is 3th in the East Conférence and 5th in the KHL, Severstal is 7th in the East conference, only 4 points behind SKA and has a great coach.

And a mediocre hockey team with questionable management. If he wanted the best chance of winning Montreal and San Jose were the choices.

Our Russian son has taken over since Hughes and Co. visited and purchased him some he started getting ice time.

I've been victimized so many times by this team/prospect development system that I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop and have SKA announce a 5 year extension for him or something. Feels too good to be true to have this kind of elite offensive talent in the system.

You ladies spot the similarities in the skating style and moves ? That wide stance and vision … whoa

A little bit, they're both similar in that they have good vision, like to go east west and are fearless in driving the net on their goals. I only saw Fedorov use the 10-2 once there, something Demidov favors a lot and makes it feel like he's gliding east to west and really hard to predict which way he will go.

Insert Demidov into this current lineup and push everyone down. My god we are going to have something special here.

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Anderson - Evans - Newhook
Heinemen - Beck - Gally
Kapanen

This is what I'm hoping for to start next year.
I'm still hoping we manage to trade for or sign a 2C this summer. Even with the talent on the wings on that 2nd line I just can't see it being dominant with Dach at C. I wouldn't be shocked at all though if Demidov has cemented himself as one of Suzuki's wingers by the end of next season.

If Demidov plays with Suzuki, it will be a line of:

Demidov - Suzuki - Laine

with

Caufield - Dach - Slafkovsky

as the other top-6 line.

Demidov has been playing some incredible hockey lately.

If his KHL season goes past the Habs last game, do we still get him for 3 ELC years starting 25/26? He's 19 so I assume so. Getting him at the end of the season to burn a year is nice but him starting the 3 year ELC next year is better.

2 years to evaluate his talent and also evaluate the looming cap growth. Very curious to see what kind of numbers he puts up and what we have to extend him for. A little premature but it's going to be a big deal when that day comes

If we are not able to trade for a 2C (upgrade on Dach), I think there is a real possibility Demidov is at center with Dach on his RW. Demidov has the style of game to play center and I think it's something in our back pocket that we won't realize until we see him listed at center for a game one day

I'm good with either. I don't necessarily believe centre is more important than their wingers. Just want players to play where their skills are optimized. If it shakes out as Demi at C and Dach at wing....I am good with that.

I never say never to any trade or upgrade. Dach is currently playing like a 2C IMO. It hasn't been that way for most of the season though. Im comfortable giving him some more runway, considering his lost year.

What I am really hoping for is Hage steps into the 2nd line centre role in 2-3 years and Dach gets bumped to 3C.

2-3 year future.....

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Hage - Demidov
Heinemen - Dach - Newhook
Xhekaj - Beck - Kapanen

They will not be giving Demidov his first professional reps at center in the NHL in his rookie season. I'd reckon we probably never see him at center outside of extenuating injury circumstances.

If Demidov becomes a superstar center, this team is an instant contender. I hope they give real consideration to experimenting with this. Maybe not in his rookie year but early on.

I think they will try him at center but for all we know, they try it in camp and preseason games and change their minds. However, Demidov has the style of game to be a center and he has talked about preferring to be a center as well.

Not like we will be obsessive with it but it's worth trying.
