Not worth it to us, if you're thinking of the cap, sure. But still has to happen. If a player CAN burn a year by getting into a game or two once his season is done (like Hutson), the team had better oblige. I can't imagine a management team wants to start off the pro relationship (with a guy they hope will be a top line winger for the next dozen years) by preventing him from doing something they JUST allowed Hutson to do. That would be terrible optics. If SKA releases Demidov before the NHL season is complete, every effort will be made to help him burn a year off his ELC, regardless of the cap implications.

Anyway, SKA season will probably end up in May so unless he goes to Laval ( 1. Laval needs to be in the PO 2. not sure if he can be registered that late in the playoffs), it's just not a possibility.

If Demidov is what we think he is, burning a year of his ELC might be beneficial. You can then talk to him about long term extension after the 25/26 season and get him long term for a better deal before he break out. Unless he’s a point per game as a rookie you have a better chance of getting a bargain.

You do know that player sign a contract based on what they will become in 2-3 years? Will it be that much different? Most of our core player will in their prime in 2027. Having him in his ELC contract could allow us to get a good vet.

We've seen recent cases of the relationship between high-level prospects and teams fracture quickly (e.g., Cutter Gauthier, Rutger McGroarty,etc). The lesson to be learned is that you don't jerk them around, otherwise they'll find another team that'll treat them right.

Being in a position where your young stars are in a position to command big bags of cash is a good problem to have. It's far better than being a wasteland of offensive talent for decades.​

It’s not releasing, KHL season ends earlier, and Demigod’s contract will have expired. Happened with Kuznetsov who joined Caps after end of Traktor season in March 2014

I actually like Rotenberg being an ass to Demidov. All Ivan has been doing since the start of the year is prove that stuff like this doesn't affect him. Instead he goes and does the most he can with his deployment, kills it on the ice both offensively and defensively at 5v5 and we all know how good he will be on the PP once he gets his shot. To add to all of this, I am sure he has gained the respect of his teammates as a person, as everyone in that room knows his deployment was unfair and he still kept a good attitude the whole way. I am sure this year has built up Demi's character and now he will be further prepared to be a complete team player and leader in the NHL next year. He has proven that he can be a key player on a contending team, which Michkov has yet to prove (more of a guy that doesn't elevate his team).

Yeah I really don’t have a problem with him getting hardened over there and overcoming adversity, it’s just going to make him feel so much more at home when he joins this group.

And say what you want about that dummy, he’s getting Demidov to shoot more often instead of looking for the pass and it’s paying dividends, he’ll come over next year a much more seasoned product versus what we did with Slaf / KK. I could see him putting up some better than expected numbers next year, especially with guys like Hutson and Laine here, but only time will tell!

In the beginning of the season, I wanted 30-35 points from him in 40-50 games. So, I'm very happy that he got 26 points in 38 games.

I think, if he have played more this year, he would put PPG season, for sure.

So points doesn't matter, really good year so far, to played MHL last year to KHL this year.

That's just confirm why Habs are lucky to grab him at 5, should easily be pick at 2.

Or April as they do not look very good, they lost their top scorer for 2 months and continue to drop in the standings.

Laval should be a lock for the playoffs, they just need to beat out the Sens as the Crunch and Utica don't look to be that good this year. We currently have an 8 pt lead on the Sens but they have 4 gms in hand and we play them a bunch still.

The contract have the same rules, but the players aren't the same age. Hutson playing 1 game burned a year of his contract because he was 20 years old. Demidov will be 19 if he comes over this season and tus can't burn a year unless he plays 10 games.
