No one will know what's going to happen since it's Russia, all we know is that he's at the half way point in the season, he's got 29 games left in the regular season, his last game is March 22nd vs Konyushkov, who's team is currently sitting in the last playoff spot but SKA has a 9 pt lead on them.

SKA right now is in a tight race but I would guess the current top 7 all get in so SKA is still very likely to make the playoffs. How far will they go in the playoffs, we will just have to wait and see. They can release him when the season ends or they can make him wait till May 31st.

Rotenberg isn't dim-witted. He's actually quite intelligent and an excellent bullshitter. But his arrogance often gets the best of him. Common sense goes out the window when this occurs and he becomes an idiot.

For reference... Imagine if arrogant Elon Musk was put in charge of the daily operation of a hockey team, GM/coaching duties, talking to media. It would likely resemble SKA under Rotenberg.

What about it? The supposition was that the Habs gave money to see Demidov higher in the line-up but he was on the 4th line in the game right after they left Russia.

And Demidov usage was normal Rotten stuff against Stochi: play him against a bottom feeder, sit him when things go bad and then play him again once they are losing and they need offense.

Not worth it to us, if you're thinking of the cap, sure. But still has to happen. If a player CAN burn a year by getting into a game or two once his season is done (like Hutson), the team had better oblige. I can't imagine a management team wants to start off the pro relationship (with a guy they hope will be a top line winger for the next dozen years) by preventing him from doing something they JUST allowed Hutson to do. That would be terrible optics. If SKA releases Demidov before the NHL season is complete, every effort will be made to help him burn a year off his ELC, regardless of the cap implications.

If Demidov is what we think he is, burning a year of his ELC might be beneficial. You can then talk to him about long term extension after the 25/26 season and get him long term for a better deal before he break out. Unless he’s a point per game as a rookie you have a better chance of getting a bargain.

I completely agree. On the minimal chance that the habs are in a playoff race there could be a hockey benefit, but, more likely, it will burn a year and drop them a spot or two in the draft. The habs should still absolutely do it, whatever the situation, because they really don't want to weaken their relationship with a player who could be their first offensive star in a very long time.
