Meh, Badinka felt like a boring pick from the moment he was taken IMO. I hope he ends up being good of course, but similar vibes to when we took Gleb instead of Lane Hutson, it was like “well that wasn’t a pick that maximizes fun value.”

Just looking at stats - he seems to be doing well at 18. In the SHL, 49 games, 2g3a in a league without a lot of 18 year old defenseman. Granted, nothing really addresses is maturity level, which seemed to be the knock on him at the draft - but he plays, so there is that.

Since Malmo has been eliminated and hes signed to Carolina. Does he come over to play in the AHL for the rest of the year and playoffs (if their AHL squad makes the playoffs)

I think this guy is the most obvious to make it over almost every other defenseman we’ve drafted over the last few years as of his draft day. His mobility seemed close to NHL level the day we drafted him, he has size and can play a defense oriented but still two way game. I viewed him as more likely to make it than Arty on draft day, and I liked the Arty pick. He seems like a layman’s Seider. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get a long chance in the minors at the very least. Much like how I enjoyed our different approach to free agency (focused on Rod style guys) I enjoyed our first two picks in last years draft as they also were common sense fits for the team.
