2024 2nd Overall Artyom Levshunov

It would have been nice to get both but Columbus wouldn't bite on the trade offer.

I hope both Lev and Demidov turn out great.

Honestly crazy in hindsight, but even without hindsight. They were targeting Lindstrom, who they knew had back issues. They could have had one of Schaefer/Misa/Martone and a 2nd round pick but instead they decided to light their pick on fire.

Just want to state with all the debate in today's game..

The draft is fairly public, lots of people involved on every team, the team's individual moves are often recorded on video, sort of a spectacle. Usually bigger news bits leak out not long after the draft. It's much easier to keep a secret before than after.

If Anaheim's pick was Levshunov? Where is it? Some guys not on the inside with zero sources rumored it before the draft in more of a "they should pick scenario," that was it. No one with any inside info has said after the fact that he was their pick.

I keep seeing this "Anaheim would have picked Lev" stuff and it's based on nothing. If you believe that? Fine, but there's nothing yet that says it was the case. Sennecke was their guy for all we know.

Same goes for Columbus. Even Montreal at this point.

Until we know differently for a fact, it's fair to assume Lev wasn't the first choice for the few teams drafting after the Hawks. That's no knock on him, he was just our guy until we know different.

Pretty sure it was out there that Anaheim liked Levshunov in the same vein that it was out there for the Blackhawks. Can't point you to any specific sources offhand but I remember hearing it quite a bit. Maybe they still pick Sennecke instead but you can't really run the draft that way. You pick the player you like best. Especially at the top of the draft

It's unfair to say "Anaheim or Clb would've picked Levshunov"... but it's 'fair to assume Lev wasn't the first choice for the few teams drafting after the Hawks'"

Do you see the double standard you've built here?

Anyways, Levshunov is good Rinzel is good, none of it matters. Give me the big mobile D and I'll cry over Demidov's 100 points with my 4th 5th and 6th banners as a Hawks fan.

Well everyone involved in that draft has done a great job of keeping the secret that Lev was Anaheim's top choice. Maybe they'll all take the secret to their grave?

What? How often do you actually see a team's final draft board or hear confirmed details about having x ranked over y in the aftermath? All we can go on are the rumors leading up to the draft. Levshunov was repeatedly linked to Chicago and Anaheim and when it became pretty clear the Blackhawks were taking him you started hearing about Anaheim liking Buium and Sennecke.

One name the Ducks were never linked to was Demidov, which if you want to play the game of chicken with rumors about other teams' draft boards, would make you feel pretty confident he could be there at 4 if CBJ was willing to make a trade. But ultimately it's irresponsible to draft that way and I doubt that's the approach they took.

Depends on the situation. Years after the fact GM's are often open about their choices and whom fell off or didn't. People talk. It's really obvious outside of specific scenarios. Like, we all know Buium was nobodies top pick for some time. But it's not news because it's out in the open. Lev being a top pick for Anaheim would be interesting news but it's apparent the whilst he was their top pick no one has come forward with that tidbit.

im going to go out on a limb here and say Anaheim's top choice was Macklin Celebrini, but I could be wrong.

Sucks for them San Jose was public about him being off the board so I can say with confidence he wasn't their first choice in a world where reality happens.

This was based at least on what his agent, Dan Milstein, said. If you follow his work a little bit, he runs his business thoroughly, if not meticulously, and if he was talking about it with such confidence, then it must have been true.

You can find his words in this interview, Google Translate will help.

Milstein basically says of Levshunov (before the draft lottery even happens), while talking about Anaheim D-Man Mintyukov "If Anaheim gets second overall they will have both guys!"

Is that it or am I missing something here? Sounds like his agent is just commenting Lev as a guarantee to go 2nd overall. I don't see anything there where he says he knows where Lev is going for sure or who is taking him and, again, it's before the lottery results are even known.

He literally says: "If Anaheim gets the second pick in the next draft, they will take Belarusian defenseman Artem Levshunov, and the two of them [along with Mintyukov] will terrorize the league for many years".

To me, it sounds like he is commenting Anaheim as a guarantee to pick Levshunov as their highest pick and is pretty confidend assuming Levshunov would go 2nd and if Anaheim doesn't get to pick second, they would miss him.
