Prospect Info: 2024 2nd Overall - Artyom Levshunov

If my math is right, then Rockford as a team has:

88 five on five goals for
116 five on five goals against
-28 5 on 5 goal differential

Which for context, makes Levshunov's -5 on the season not too bad.

Korchinski is rocking a -21 on the other side though.

I'm not going to make any definitive calls on him yet. He's young and has plenty of time to develop. I think he's slid by on physical talent so far and now he's in a place where he can develop the rest of his game. I think some his critics forget how much time Keith and Seabrook spent in the AHL. I just hope they don't rush him up here.
Seabrook played 3 games in the AHL.

I think a lot assume that Levshunov is bad defensively, but he really isn’t. He’s a bit of a loose cannon and loves humping up in the play. But when he actually puts his head down to play defense, he’s not easily moved and knows exactly where to be.

So I guess the prominent thing with him is again, focus.

I think he's got some shit in his neck that we haven't seen much of yet. I mean he was hacking and wacking and fighting a guy in summer workouts. He's so goofy but I think he flips a switch.

I would like to see him stop directing people around the ice. It's my biggest pet peeve on him. He literally points plays out to his teammates and shit. Dude, just worry about yourself. I think he needs to be coached hard. He needs to be our next Hawks coaches whipping boy. From what I've seen he needs out of this "oh we're making mistakes and developing" situation and into getting his ass chewed and getting booed if he plays half ass. That's my read on him at least.

The way he jumps in on the puck aggressively and some other unconventional things he does lead me to think he has to communicate a lot to QB the team. He definitely needs instant coverage because he'll get overly aggressive position-wise in any zone when he sees an opportunity. But that's the big part of his game, flipping the possession and keeping everything going back the other way with occasional chaos.

Your right. For some reason I thought he spent a year in the AHL. Keith spent two complete seasons, though.
He spent an extra year in the whl he probably wouldn't of had because of the lockout and he likely would of been rushed up if not for. Which is the benefit I think a lot of 03 draft picks got.

Lev has always had all the tools. It’s between the ears. And not reading the game necessarily. It’s talking shifts off and being lackadaisical. When on he can dominate.

Would he have really been up for the 2004-05 season as a 19 year old? I'm not saying definitively one way or another, but at that draft position, it's a bit rare to be playing NHL as a teenage defenseman.
