2024-25 WHL Playoffs Game Thread

VIC takes a stranglehold on the series. Hicks has been unbelievably good for them, signing him as a BCHL free agent has been a total heist so far. I would absolutely love for VIC to face MH in the finals, because they didn't play any games in Victoria this year, and I want to watch McKenna live.

Hitmen are dominating the Blades so far. I expect (read: hope) the series to be done tonight or Friday Game 5 at the latest.

Speedy Creek drew blood from Medicine Hat so it'll be interesting to see how both teams respond.

See, I told you their goaltending would be fine.

Haha, early goings, but so far so good!
I believe I said it would be the greatest, most beautiful goaltending the world had ever seen. Even better than Lincoln, one person said. I said we would be winning so much, you'd get sick of winning. And I said, my hands are not tiny. That's fake news.

I was a bit surprised they went with Hicks, to be honest. To have relied on Kraus for the bulk of the season and then turn the playoffs over to Hicks is an interesting choice.

I'm going to the Royals game on Friday, should be a great game. For this to be a successful playoffs for the Royals, they need a minimum of 1 series win. They are a very deep team, and Reschny gives them the elite scorer they haven't had in a long time. Should be a fun series. I'm going to say the Royals win 4-1, going 3-0 at home.
Well, they won the series 4-1, although game 5 was in TC, which I forgot about. Great playoffs so far. Most likely round 2 opponent is Spokane, which is going to be a really tough test. They have had our number all year.

Go Royals!

Hitmen are playing Lethbridge in the second round now. I was hoping it would set up so that Lethbridge and Medicine Hat would have to play each other first, but here we are.

I do feel the Hitmen are the better team on paper and they took the season series 6-2 but it's playoffs and anything can happen. I'm expecting a 6 or 7 game series and I have to know Med Hat is feeling good because of that.

Royals most likely playing an away series against Spokane for round 2. Really tough matchup, and they've had our number all year. Nice thing is, I assume it'll be a similar schedule to VIC v TC, where the series will go SPOx2, VIC x3, SPOx2, so game 5 will be in Victoria, instead of Spokane.

Thought VAN wold have more pushback. SPO topline could be their ticket to the MEM. Cristal has lucked out closing his time vs in KEL.

Portland got goalied tonight, but boy that second PG goal tonight … woof.

Gotta say: Junior hockey - especially playoff hockey - is just so much fun to watch.

Royals 1 Spokane 2 season series with one of the 2 losses being in a shootout. Royals were the first team to stop the Catton Cristall juggernaut after the trade deadline. They have excellent big mobile D, equally excellent goaltending and depth is starting to peak. They have a chance. I'll be at all games in Victoria.

How did SEA get a 6 game series vs EVT? Gotta be the shortest rebuild time after an ALL IN run the previous year. Are they set up for a nice season next year? Must have been a HUGE sigh out of the SEA coach room last night. EVT / POR will do nice box office.

Seattle was hot down the stretch. Scott Ratzlaff had a .929 save percentage once the calendar flipped over to 2025.

Second round series are all set, and Portland were the only lower seed to win in the first round.

Round 2:

Medicine Hat Tigers vs Prince Albert Raiders

Calgary Hitmen vs Lethbridge Hurricanes

Everett Silvertips vs Portland Winterhawks

Spokane Chiefs vs Victoria Royals
