D-pairs:

(83) Vilen (22) Casey
(93) Misyul (3) MacKinnon

Goal - (1) Poulter

I was not able to watch this one live so many of you already know the results. Spent the day hunting for the best prices on major appliances and new cookware.

Dinner.

Bringing out the Christmas decorations, testing lights, setting up the room to for the tree to be cut and purchased tomorrow.

Watching bits and pieces throughout the later evening hours.

1st period was all Comets without any goal-scoring luck

Legare took umbrage to a cross check on Laberge by Tyler Tucker and he instigated a fight between the 2 at 18:26.
Both got 5 for fighting, Tucker 2 for the cross check and Legare 2 for instigation, but Legare also got a 10-minute misconduct.

1st Period ended scoreless.
SOG:
13-6 Utica

Period 2

Springfield got on the board first with a goal by Dalibor Dvorsky at 15 15:15. This was a bad goal if ever there was one. A shot was lofted from the blueline and Poulter reached up to grab it for what should have been an easy grab. Instead it popped out of his glove, dropped in front of him, and Dvorsky instantly tapped it past him.

1-0 Springfield

Utica came right back a minute later with Sam Laberge denting the twines with his 1st of the season at 16:20. A wicked wrister from the left dot just under the crossbar on the shortside. 16:20

1-1

20 seconds later Laberge and Sam Bitten mucked it up and both got 2 for Roughing at 16:40.

Period ended with the score knotted at 1.
SOG:
10 shots each
2-period total:
23-16 Utica

Period 3

Comets started this one right off the opening faceoff with Foote scoring to make it 2-1 Utica at 0:16. He took a turnaround shot off a loose puck at the top of the right circle and it squirted through the keeper.

2-1 Comets

At 2:34 MacKinnon and Sam Bitten squared off and went toe to toe. Both through a bunch of punches and both landed a few each.
Both got 5 for fighting.

The Comets went to the PP as Drew Callin got 2 for hooking at 5:09. Less than a minute later Casey drifted down the middle looking for a pass and the puck came right to him off a T-Bird effort to get it out of a scrum to the the right of the keeper. Seamus took it like it was passed to him in the middle of the the circles and he let it go from just above the hash marks and scored his 2nd of the season.
PPG at 5:44

The Comets kept the play away from Poulter for most of the resat of the period.

Vilen took a penalty for Cross-checking. A BS game management call by the zebra at 11:55. The Comets killed it.

At 16:53 Vilen got called for holding after a take down behind his net.

The T-Birds pulled the keeper to start the their PP with 3:07 to go.
They killed the penalty.

Keeper stayed on the bench.

For the 3rd straight game the Comets gave up a goal inside the last 30 seconds.
Callin scored at 19:31.
3-2 Comets.
End oF the 3rd
They held on to make it 4 wins in a row.

Final score Utica 3 Springfield 2

It's 9:16 and I'm just tuning in on delay. Today was our tradition of traipsing out and cutting the Christmas tree. Then trimming it up, getting it established in the stand. Then dinner. Finally getting the lights on the tree and lighting it up.
Shower, the warm cozy jams, and robe. Time to tune in to the Comets.

11/30/24 Utica Comets @ Providence Bruins

Forwards:
(79) Laberge (16) Engaras (11) Legare
(25) Foote (26) Schmelzer (24) Halonen
(39) Hardman (67) Parent (34) Beckman
(5) Gambardella (13) Malone (20) Willman

D-Pairs:
(6) White (17) Nemec
(83) Vilen (22) Casey
(93) Misyul (3) MacKinnon

Goal - (50) Daws
Period 1

Comets were being outshot 6-2 when Legare opened the scoring with a shot from the left dot off DiPietro's glove and in.

Comets get the game's 1st PP as Riley Tufte gets 2 for Interference at 14:54.

Comets got 3 shots, but no dice on the PP.

Nemec gets 2 for Cross-checking at 17:08. If that's cross-checking the game should be played down men all night long. It was shove with his stick in both hands.

52 seconds into the PP Fabian Lysell is called for Hooking at 18:00.
4 on 4.

Comets will get a short PP in the last minute with :40 seconds to go in the period. Comets couldn't even muster a shot.

End of the 1st
1-0 Utica
SOG:
11-8 Utica

Period 2

Period barely opened before Michael Callahan gets 2 for Holding at :40.
Terrible PP. Comets don't even get a shot.

Misyul hits the post.
Max Jones goes off for Tripping at 9:06. Comets 4th PP and so far are 0 for their last 3.

Foote gets the only shot of the PP, a 1-timer at 12:34.

Laberge hands out a nice check and is called for Interference, but doesn't look it.

Buins get 3 good chances and the PK is successful. As the penalty ends, Laberge is out of the box. Receives the puck at the redline and goes into the O-zone alone, crosses in front of the net as a defender catches up coming down the middle and ends up in the net front. Labrege let loose a backhander while by passing the defender and DiPietro loses sight as the shot beats him.
G--------O--------A------L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
COMETS up 2-0!
Laberge at 16:04.

Daws makes a great save on Trevor Kuntar.

Parent and Jeffrey Viel get 2 minute penalties. X guilty of holding and Viel for Roughing as he didn't like Parnet's effort.
16:48

The Bruins get 3 good chances right off the ensuing face off, but Daws was up to the challenge.

He made 2 more stops inside the 18th minute stopping a shot and the rebound.

Period 2 comes to an end.
Comets escape the period still up 2-0.
SOG:
12-6 Providence
2-period total:
20-17 Bruins
Comets were outplayed, but scored the only goal while Daws was a wall making the 2 goals, thus far, stand up.

Period 3

The Bruins came out loaded for bear. Vilen got the 1st shot of the period at 1:00. From that point the Bruins launched 6 shots over the next 7 minutes.

Parent got a shot on net at 8:28, but the Bruins got the next 5 in less than 3 minutes.

Daws was keeping them in the game as they tried to lock down the game. They did a good job of it the 1st half of the period. Getting the puck out of their end and getting it deep in the other end.

Daws stood tall when the Comets faltered in their defensive effort.

(An aside:
Nemec does not play with a sense of urgency. It's always the same pace. That becomes a problem when the opposition picks up their game and pressures the Hell out of him.)

10:19 to go.

Beckman 2 challenging shots and Mikey accepted them.

Comets still making a solid effort of keeping the Bruins in check.

TV TO
6:15 to go

Comets playing the perimeter in the Bruins end. Killing the clock.

Georgi Merkulov bats the puck over the glass. 2 for Delay of game.
16:02.

DiPietro goes to the bench at 16:18. Bruins playing 5 on 5 with no keeper.

Comets into the Bruins' end. Battle onthe end boards.
Puck squirts out to Beckman all aolne inthe slot and he shoots it off the post and in......................................GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beckman at 17:09
3-0 Comets

Daws has lost shutouts and also given up a goal in the last minute 3 times recently.
Comets trying to pevent that once again. Save by dAws just before the horn.

He got the SHUTOUT this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Final score -
Utica 3 Providence 0

SOG:
UTC - 11 6 6 = 23

Scoring:
Nathan Legare (3) from Ryan Schmelzer (5)

#3 - Samuel Laberge (Utica Comets) 1 G

Comets win their 5th in a row. Record now stands at 5-10-1-2 for 13 Pts.
Crazy that they are trailing 6th place Belleville 16 GPand 5th place Syracuse 19 GP both at 20 Pts) by 7 points. The Comets have played 18 games.

The Comets have climbed out of the AHL sewer to #28 of 32 AHL teams. Bridgeport and Iowa also have 13 points, but Bridgeport has lost 1 more game putting them at #29 and Iowa has won 1 more game putting them at #27.

Next up for the Comets is Rochester on Wednesday (12/4) again in Rochester.

AHL.com lists DeSimone and Bowers as sent down on 11/30.

DeSimone is recalled on 12/1. A paper deal.

Bowers does not want to play down here. His performance before he was called up is proof of that.

Legare is recalled on 12/1.

Hardman is also recalled on 12/1. The fact that he is listed in the GDT as starting on LW of the 4th line leads me to believe he is the Tatar call-up replacement.

Legare is listed in the GDT as the starting RW.

Comets play again on Wednesday.

After today the Devils play next on Friday. If Tatar's day to day has passed someone comes back down. Heaven, please let it be Hardman when Tatar returns.

Legare would also be welcome back.

Witn MacDermid not in the lineup against the Rangers, maybe Legare is the designated cheap shot artist. That's definitely not his game, B....U........T?

If Hardman and Legare remain for any length of time it will mean the Comets are not meant to have any nice things.

12/2/24 - None

Keefe says he thinks Tatar will be back for their next game. Maybe one of the Hardman and Legare will be back. If it comes down to one or the other, it would likely be Legare.

While talking about Comets in NJ, it was nice to see Dowling score his 2nd goal as a Devil in the Washington game. As Keefe said in his pregame interview, Justin has been consistent and done the job he's been asked to do. Can't ask for any more than that.

Hardman's return would be a big piece for the Comets. What Coach Parent has to be careful of is breaking up what has been successful in the 5-game streak.

He should put Hardmam right back with Beckman on RW and Parent in the middle.
Put Bowers between Willman and Foote. Bowers replaces Malone.
Move Gambardella up on the LW with Schmelzer at C and Halonen on RW

That leaves the hole left by Legare. Nathan is the 4th line/energy line RW with Laberge on LW and Engaras in the middle. Ideally that spot would become Stillman, who has been injured, missing the last 2 games. If Stillman can't go, Tag Bertuzzi gets another go.

Has anyone heard of either Daws or Poulter being called up to NJ?
are either of them injured or sick?

Has anyone heard that one of Markstrom or Allen is injured?
Are either of them ill or injured

I ask because Tyler Brennan has been called up by Utica, but here is no posting that Daws has been called up.

The Comets play in Rochester this evening. There would absolutely be no reason to recall him on a game day if there isn't a goalie somewhere in the chain out of action for one reason or another causing a chain possibly causing a chain reaction of callups.

Thanx. Where did you read that?

No need to reply. I found the article in the Rome Sentinel. The Comets don't say why but Daws is day to day. Poulter will shoulder much of the net duty until Daws returns.

He has played 13 of the Comets 18 GP. Perhaps this is just a short rest.?.

Utica Comets @ Rochester Americans
Forwards:
(79) Laberge (16) Engaras (61) Stillman
(5) Gambardella (15)Bowers (20) Willman
(24) Halonen (26) Schmelzer (25) Foote
(39) Hardman (67) Parent (34) Beckman

D-Pairs:
(6) White (17) Nemec
(83) Vilen (22) Casey
(93) Misyul (44) Osiprov

Goal - (1) Poulter

Comets get a PP at 1:08.
Amerks get more shots.
Comets 1 total PP shot.

Schmelzer with a breakaway stopped by Levi.

Comets with a 2 on 1. At the last second Hardman tried a no look pass across to Beckman that was tipped away by the lone Amerk.
Comets to the PK as Foote gets 2 for Tripping at 9:02.
In contrast to the Comets PK, the Amerks have controlled the puck for most of the 2 minutes, but only got 1 shot on net. Result is the same. Comets killed it.

Willman may be the least effective forward the Comets have. He can't do anything and avoids contact like it's poison.
Foote continues to gets amazing passes in great position and can't control the passes.
They leave 2 lines with a weak link.

Stillman has attempted a ton of cross ice passes all season and most never get where he wanted them to as he hasn't figured out that the guy between him and his intended pass breaks it up or just picks it.

Amerks score on a 2 on 1 at 16:55.

1-0 Rochester

1st Period ends
1-0 Amerks
SOG:
9-8 Rochester
The Comets' shots were from long distance, with no goal front presence, and 1 and done.

The Comets active forecheck, heavy backcheck, short quick passes, and shooting at every opportunity were all missing tonight. Those elements to their game were what resulted in the last 5 games, all victories. They are skating in mud,
have exerted little offense, and haven't exhibited any serious physicality.

If they try to run and up and down the ice with the Amerks, the result won't be pretty. The Amerks love to skate fast and if you give them open ice, individual space, and clear shooting lanes, you will go home losers. They will skate you out of the building.

Simplest description of that period was a complete lack of energy. They were listless.

Period 2

The Comets have played the first 5 minutes of this period the opposite of what I said at the end of the 1st. Let's see if they can keep this up. Bowers hit Levi in the mask A shot put Rathbone down. Another Comets shot after the Rathbone block hit Bowers somewhere around the head.

Time is out and they are cleaning blood off the ice where Bowers dripped it at the bottom of the circle while leaving the ice.

Big stop by Poulter.
