2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

Maybe a combination of both things - jets being able to offer a winning roster and a shot at a cup (I don’t think he’s training the way he is to join a bubble team) + it so happens to be where he grew up. Would be a heckuva story if they win the cup with him on the roster as a contributing player, that’s for sure.
Coming back after a couple years off at 37 to win his 4th cup, and first cup ever for his hometown team would put him into some rarified air

To be fair a decent chunk of his peak was during a period of low league wide scoring.

This. Also, he was so clutch in big moments. Whether it was at NHL level (3 cups, winning a Conn Smythe), or international level (best forward at the 2010 olympics in Vancouver, or even those 3 shootout goals at the world juniors when he was younger). He just always thrived in the biggest spotlights. It’s exactly what you want on your team.

When we think of the Panthers with Tckachuk and Marchand for example, Toews may not have as much of the nasty side in his game, so-to-speak, but that killer instinct to score in the big moment under pressure is 100% there. Regardless of the reality that he may not be what he was several years ago (and really who knows), I think it’s a player you want rostered for sure.

Time will tell if the Jets can make it happen!

There is definitely an aspect of legacy building here. The home town kid comes out of semi retirement to put the team over the hump.

He'd likely have the local business community lined up for endorsements as well.

He has three cups and don't see any other way he could potentially top his career other then doing it at home.

Chevy also has a bucket of cap space and can afford a more lucrative one year deal then pretty much any other contender if it came to that.

I think Chevy will try to sign Toews in the $ 1.5 million dollar range, with added performance bonuses.

I think this would be a smart thing to do, as this team needs depth scoring, and leadership, which I believe he can bring.

His Nik name at Chicago given by the players was Captain Serious - in other words, no fooling around, and we’re here to win.

I think Chevy should sign him, and it will also make a statement to the league, that “ big name” players do sign in Winnipeg.

I think he’d bring to the Jets, what Perry brings to the Oilers, and we need that badly. Sign him 👍

What a gong show in Buffalo and after reading a lot of the comments on social media ... majority of the other team fans want Alex Tuch. He is #1 on everyone's list also he is a UFA after this year so if he is not traded over the summer ... he will be a top target at TDL.

Things must be *really* bad if Tuch wants to leave.

Where else would he go if he had his pick?
His wife has strong ties to the Vancouver area…

Wonder if Jeannot goes to FA if we could entice him into the fold. He's the kind of bottom 6 type player we need. Mean, plays on the edge, hits everything in sight. Add him and Toews this offseason. Walk away from Apples/Tanev. Move Schenn and Stanley. Sign Ehlers/Vilardi/Samberg/Barron/Kupari/Fleury.

Would just need to add a decent depth Dman that can maybe play into the lineup. Fabbro is out there.

Toews would probably bring 5x that back in revenues. I think it would be huge for the organization even if he doesn't contribute much. Perry still brings a fair bit to the table as far as ability.....I'm not expecting that much from Toews. The main issue is whether a team can afford to give up that roster spot. If he can come in and play 15 minutes and win some d zone faceoffs, then I'd be happy.

Yeah, he's a marketing dream for the org. He'd sell a bucket load of jerseys and tickets.

I will always remember what Tampa paid for Jeannot a few years back at the deadline. I was shocked and didn’t understand it lol.

Jeannot was a one hit wonder who hasn't done much in the way of scoring since, if you want a guy yo muck it up he is the player you are looking for, if you're looking for more scoring from the bottom six he won't get you there.

Yeah, he's a fourth line grinder these days. If that is all you expect with physciality then fine.

There were reports of guys openly making fun of Beach in practice. I believe Sopel referenced that everybody knew.

Not sure any of this is scientifically proven... but his post is pretty reasonable
100% there were reports of the bullying and I absolute believe them. Sopel stated he believed everyone had to know - Toews said he didn’t know until next training camp. And when he found out Brad(perv coach) was let go etc so thought it was handled.

The part that I don’t like is assuming or stating as fact how someone showed up. That’s unreasonable or gross to me. But the whole situation is gross.

Post would be reasonable and I’d agree with it if just simply stating Toews was on the team in 2010 during the beach incident and that gives me hesitancy as it’s unclear what Toews knew or didn’t and how he showed up.

Toews and Kane both had some tone deaf comments after the fact as well which I didn’t love. Regardless we have no idea how Toews was involved in the situation. Theres a lot of speculation - some of it quite reasonable. Let’s just not state things as fact, imo.

Toews is one of the most clutch players of the 2010s and one of the greatest playoff performers. Corey Perry is almost 40 and has been to several recent finals still making an impact.

I'd love to add him to the lineup, even if he's not top 6 quality anymore he can cover while Lowry's gone and be a great bottom 6er like Perry.
Especially in the playoffs, and lot of warts can be hidden on a good team if you are good within 10 feet... Perry and Toews both arrive frequently, and are outstanding in that area of the net.

It seems like a great fit and risk reward given our situation. Just not sure he doesn't opt for Edmonton or Chicago or Anaheim or whoever instead despite the Jets courting him.

I can't see him going to a rebuilding team. Most other contending teams are in cap hell so it will be difficult for them to land him.

I keep thinking if Calgary holds on to that last playoff spot we might be in the cup now

The Blues series just wore us out. To be frank both teams would have been pulp in the 2nd round. It was a stupid series that was way too physical and it killed us. Watching the Oilers coast through this and play in some easy series hasn't been easy. Like I said, I think Dallas was shit. I just don't think we could score and battle through the injuries we had during the Blues series.

I am not really what they need to do in the off season. Maybe give a young guy a chance. Maybe sign Toews. 2nd line center is a problem. A one/two punch of Scheif/someone that can do 60 points. I am not sure if Ehlers returns either.

I more so think if Helle could have had a few even 'okay' games on the road we could be in the cup right now.
