2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

I wouldn’t have a problem offer sheeting Rossi if he’s open to it. Maybe the only way he gets his 7 mil. But I’d probably only do it if Ehlers was leaving cause I’d want some size on that second line. Not sure who the target would be for that. Probably trading some prospects to get it.

This is my thinking. If Fly is gone and you can get a player like Dach with some size and skating then Rossi might be a good choice to help replenish some of the skill lost from fly.

If fly stays then I find Rossi's skill set redundant given what we already have.

I'd love to see this as our top 6:

CSV
Fly Cole Dach

Or if Fly leaves

CSV
Cole Rossi Dach

That's a more balanced top 6 to me that still allows both lines to play the high pressure forecheck scheme the team plays.

You missed the point.

Even the best players struggle. For gretzky, it took him 5 years to prove he could be clutch in the playoffs. You are writing off Rossi after one round, when his numbers were not even that bad.

I mean, sure, the Oilers didn't win a cup until 83-84, but it's not like it was because Gretzky didn't show up:

79-80 3 gp 1g 2a 3 pts (1 ppg)
80-81 9 gp 7g 14a 21 pts (2.33 ppg)
81-82 5 gp 5g 7a 12 pts (2.4 ppg)
82-83 16 gp 12g 26a 38 pts (2.38 ppg) Lost to Islanders in final
83-84 19 gp 13g 22a 35 pts (1.84 ppg) Won cup

With the exception of 79-80, when he was 19, he contributed at his usual HoF pace. One player can't do it all on their own; all you can ask is that they show up and make plays. And he most certainly did that.

All this Rossi talk about the Jets should get him ... I have one question.
Have you been watching the playoffs and the way the Panthers are playing?
Rossi got pushed down to 4th line minutes against a big tough VGK defence in the playoffs.
After what the Jets went through in the Blues series ... do you really think 5'9" center would have helped?
Maybe if he played like Brad Marchand it would help a lot in fact the Jets would be better off getting Marchand than Rossi.
Also the Rossi camp demands are quite high (7x7) which is one of the reasons why he is now on the trade block plus the the Wild demands for a trade are also wild.
I'm not saying Rossi is a bad player ... I'm just point out Rossi does not move the needle for the Jets.

Byram and Peterka have also had their names floating around in trade scuttle for the last bit, as well.

It's going to be an interesting summer in Buffalo.
What a gong show in Buffalo and after reading a lot of the comments on social media ... majority of the other team fans want Alex Tuch. He is #1 on everyone's list also he is a UFA after this year so if he is not traded over the summer ... he will be a top target at TDL.

This is why a scorched earth rebuild in an undesirable market tends not to work.

None of these players want to be stuck loosing for years, especially if you don't like where you are playing.
Buffalo changes GMs more often than most teams change head coaches - they're on their 4th GM since the Jets returned in 2011 (Regier, Murray, Botterill and Adams), and they've had 8 head coaches over that span. How do you execute any kind of long term plan with that kind of instability?

Their org dysfunction is tip notch as well, which clearly doesn't help.

I'm not a super huge fan of welcoming people that were complicit in the Kyle Beach sexual abuse scandal. That said, I am more than willing to accept that he was a young captain and a culture of silence is very pervasive in the industry. It's hard to hold one person accountable when everybody is complicit to some degree. If he wants to sign here and be the second/third line center, I'm all for it. Needs to be the right contract, though.

First of all. The Kyle beach thing was disgusting.

Also disgusting. Casually implying Jonathan Toews had any responsibility or culpability in it. There are big assumptions and judgements made in this post.

Was he complicit? - huge assumption.

You are willing to cut him some slack because he was young, and because of the culture of silence? Cut him slack for what? How big of you.

What the heck even is this post.

Agreed. Definitely a good replacement for Lowry’s injury and then maybe he surprises with what he has left in the tank.

Exactly my thoughts. Total wild card, but one worth looking hard into and seeing what's there. Dreger pushing this seems like there's a lot of smoke and subsequently fire.

If he can provide us some depth at C with the Lowry injury plus all the other intangibles and Cup pedigree -- sign me up.
