2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

That would have been nice, and the type of move everyone wants their GM to make I think.

Now I hope they try and find the next "pre breakout" McMichael. :)

That's always the goal and perfect situation.

Getting players not only a cheap deal relative to potential production in their breakout -- but also them not having trade protection and then having the flexibility with being an RFA.

You'll pay more but if the opportunity presents itself it's much more beneficial to the team than the stop gap C for a year or two you are hoping won't break down or fall off a cliff production wise.

Finding them and facilitating the deal is the hard part, of course.

Pierre LeBrun of TSN offered some insight on Marner’s free agency plans, saying, “In my opinion, it is more likely Mitch Marner tests the market than re-signs in Toronto.” LeBrun added, “I think pretty much it’s a done deal [Mitch Marner] is going to market; very very likely”.

According to Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff, the 28-year-old star winger is not considering any of the six other Canadian franchises as potential landing spots if he leaves the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer.

I'm going to reject this because I think Marner playing for the Jets would be fun.

If I could post that pretends to be shocked gif, I would.

Didn't Toronto ask Marner to waive his NTC at the trade deadline? Cuz well duh. Don't want me that much that I'm a trade piece? OK, I'll walk away. Also the playoff ending behaviors of fans and players alike. Golly, I don't know why Marner signed elsewhere...
Maybe they knew he wasn't re-signing and they were trying to get something back for him.

If they get rid of Schenn Stanley will be a mainstay in the line up again. When the shit goes down the Jets need more than just Lowry to take care of business.

Outside of a couple hits when the going got rough against St. Louis neither were anywhere to be found so I'm not really sure either even bring that to the table.

Infact the few times they tried to stir shit up after the play they ended up in the box which hurt the team.

More and more teams are doing away with these types of deterants. Most of the teams we face it isn't necessary to have one. Do we really need to have a roster spot for the 10% of games we play St. Louis/Minny?

Yeah you're far better off having a Marchand/Bennett/Wilson type that can actually play the game and help score goals while engaging in the rough stuff.

Anyone else think that Vegas will go hard after Marner should he hit FA? They can give him $12M a year in a no tax state where he could slip into the shadows, which would be the same a $50M in Toronto or so it would feel.

If they do, then William Karlsson would likely be a cap casualty with his $5.9M cap hit. Vegas gets cap space and perhaps a young non-roster player/prospect, and we get a solid veteran C who would be epic during our SC celebration.

He has a MNTC, and Winnipeg is likely one of the 10 teams, but perhaps we can be persuaded to come here for the 2 years left on his current deal. Sign Ehlers and trade for Karlsson and our 2nd line would be speedy and skilled still. And his 2 yr contract gives Yager time to develop his pro game in the AHL and add some strength. I still feel Yager would be an ideal 2C one day with his offensive chops and defensive acumen.

Shoo, shoo buggar off then Marner . Any Canadian player that doesn't want to play in Canada is useless to me. Oh but the tax rate is better in the US , when you are making 14 million a year as if that matters.

I refuse to support any move that helps f*** Vegas get more talented.

There isn’t much fighting in the playoffs. Most teams go with the “power play is the enforcer”.

The regular season isn’t the same. It’s an 82 game grind. We don’t want to see Ehlers fighting or Scheifele taking jabs to the face from some goon with no response. Someone will need to answer the bell and it can’t only be Lowry.

If it isn’t Stanley or Schenn it will have to be someone else.

Yes.

More importantly the Jets seem to think so.

It’s just that simple? Just pull a Marchand out of thin air. Wish the Jets would have done that years ago.
