2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

I think Connor stays…but Ehlers is leaving.
Ehlers hasn’t been given the same solid opportunities Connor has and I think soured on WPG as a long term home a while ago. He’s been bounced around the lineup and wasn’t been given the solid spot to succeed. Right or wrong, I think he took offence to that treatment.
I’m at a 95% likelihood he walks. Our only hope is that he has a preferred destination in mind and has given Chevy the chance to trade his rights there for some sort of return…meager as it will be.
IMO, Chevy was 100% right in keeping Ehlers for the playoff run, as an own rental

Do teams have to wait til July 1 st, to make UFA’s offers, or can they start now ? I’d like Chevy to have some time on the Ehlers deal.

Anybody know ?
The NHL used to have a UFA negotiation window before July 1, but they scrapped that with the latest CBA extension. So no teams will be (legally) talking to Ehlers agent until 12:00pm Eastern on July 1.

You can negotiate with your own upcoming UFAs, so Chevy will have until the 30th of June before he hits the market.

If he wants out, what would be the most we could get for him? Would it be something like a 5th round pick for another team to have first rights on negotiation?

I don't think hockey is as simple as capitalizing on value via trades all the time. Agree with the fan impact though. I don't think there are more than 5 or 6 players in the league who could impact attendance to a significant degree.
I am not focusing on trades. People want to bring up years of service as some crazy value add, when a) the rules of draft picks or RFAs are more advantageous from the team's POV to garner value and b) really don't care about value-add when it did not amount to anything tangible. & yes agree on the attendance/$ generated point.

For a potential 2C, I wonder what it would take to get Cole Sillinger from CBJ. He’s got Monahan and Fantilli ahead of him.

Would Vegas target Marner? If so, they might have to clear some cap space. William Karlsson has a cap hit of 5.9 million, but he does have a modified NTC. Could he be convinced to waive it?

Vegas has been known to being ruthless when they want to sign someone new.

KFC is going to be a problem. Right now him and Ehlers make about the same. I expect with the new cap room some team will wildy over pay Ehlers and then KFC's agent points to that as the starting point.

Important to make our offer soon though. The cap goes up a lot each year for the next 3, meaning a lot of over paying around the league. Will only be harder to keep guys.
What about a double whammy announcement?
Like Scheifele and Helle

Just my opinion, but Toews is a Mennonite, and they have a very tight knit community, and most know one another, and a lot of them attend their local churches. They are also very hard working people, especially in construction, and farming, and I think that’s where Toews hard work ethic comes from.

Toews isn’t in it for money anymore, as he has plenty. He also donated a lot of bucs to a St.Vital community club named after him.

I think if Jonathon comes back, the Jets would be very high on his list, because he’d like to make his family and friends proud of Manitoba.

I could be wrong about this, but I bet he spends a lot of time in Winnipeg, or Manitoba somewhere.
If he’s Mennonite he’s in for the cash
I don’t know many who aren’t motivated by cash.
I’ve dealt with many over the years and they are the ultimate grinders

The way that some UFA contracts are announced early in July 1st, it wouldn't surprise me if GMs give the OK to some players to negotiate if they know they aren't coming back. A few media types have laughed about that in the past

There's no way that complex, big dollar contracts can be finalized in 22 minutes on that morning lol

Technically the Jets could also do a sign and trade and give him the 8th year, that other teams can't do as a UFA July 1st.

Totally forgot about these options. It’s nice that he still has some trade value if he doesn’t return. Hopefully we make the most out of whatever the final result is

No doubt, the Mennonite’s are the ultimate grinders, very hard workers but Towes isn’t your average guy.

Yes, he’ll want to get paid for what he can get, but he’s basically set for life, and will be looking for a good fit with a team he thinks an win, and a place he likes.

You have to be a mennonite haha

Towes has only been in chicago
Add to that team Canada, where I believe he was the Captain, and led them to victory. Don’t know about his junior career, but I’d think he was always a winner.

He’s the kind of on ice leader, the Jets could really use, if he’s still got game, and the desire to play.

If at the right price, I’d go on him.

No, I’m not one, but have worked with many on construction just out of hi school, and man those guys work hard. Also dealt a lot with them in business, so I know what their all about.

This is the way I’d do it exactly, and you could get a great return. Chevy got Pionk, with very little leverage with the Trouba situation.

I guess this depends if Ehlers wants to play ball with the Jets, and do a pre sign and trade.
