2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

So I guess we should walk Connor to UFA after this season should he not sogn. I mean we got his best years and all that service and ticket sales. No point trading him.

While I’m always open to listen to offers on any players if I was GM, including KFC, I think if Ehlers walks keeping KFC becomes a must. Losing Ehlers this summer and KFC next summer would be very hard to recover from if not impossible. KFC has multi warts, but his main job is scoring and puck control and he’s fairly good at both. So once we know what happens with Ehlers, then we we know what we have to do with KFC…..ideally we sign both of course. We need to add to the current team to get better, not lose good guys.

Bo Horvat via trade to solve our 2C problem?

Great at FO, scores, produces points, signed long term……one potential issue is his NTC he would need to waive. He is Canadian, played in Canada many years…..maybe he would waive to have a chance at a cup.

I don't really see why the Islanders trade any of their good players. They need more, not less of them. I expect with the first overall pick this year they try to quickly retool and add.

I expect them to be major players for Ehlers.

Today Nick Kypreos on Real Kyper & Bourne said if the Jets don't sign Ehlers, then he thinks the Jets will go after Brock Nelson and offer a 7-8M deal in FA, and that Nelson would "gladly go there". Now I was thinking Brock Boeser and thought that was a bit low for Boeser, then realized it was Nelson not Boeser he was talking about.

Kyper is a bit hit and miss with his projections but tends to say things he has 'heard'. So take that for what it's worth. I think Nelson gets to FA, and I also think there will be other 2C needy teams that will offer him a lot more than he's worth for too long. Hoping that's not the Jets.
Why would he gladly come here when he reportedly nixed the trade to come here at the deadline?

KFC is going to be a problem. Right now him and Ehlers make about the same. I expect with the new cap room some team will wildy over pay Ehlers and then KFC's agent points to that as the starting point.

Important to make our offer soon though. The cap goes up a lot each year for the next 3, meaning a lot of over paying around the league. Will only be harder to keep guys.

What are you going to trade him for?

What that other poster failed to recognize is that if you're going to trade a guy like Ehlers or Connor while the team is competitive, you're likely going to have to try to backfill their production at the TDL with a rental... which will cost assets

So let's say Chevy traded Ehlers a year ago for "x assets"... but then needed to expend "y assets" at the TDL to bolster the top six

Ultimately, it becomes a comparison of "x asstes" vs "y assets", and the return for Ehlers is only the difference in value between the two - and it's likely minimal

The market for KC is pretty set. He'll get in around an equivalent cap hit% as Rheinhart, Pasta, Nylander, Guentzel. He won't be getting Marner/Rantanen dollars.

If Ehlers leaves how can anyone fault Chevy for keeping him as our own rental this season ? High value free agents aren't signing in Winnipeg so we basically got one for free for this years playoffs by keeping Ehlers at the deadline. Now if we were going to miss the playoffs this year then ya Chevy absolutely should have traded Ehlers.

Likely true, I guess we’ll see what direction they go.

Connor is a tier above guentzel and nylander...
not sure if there's big separation with nylander anymore. earlier in their careers perhaps, but nylander is just as productive as connor over the last several years. Nylander actually has more 40+ goal years (KC has 1 more in per-82 gp), and just as many PPG seasons in their career.

Some of you talk like it's only futures and only at deadlines. Just maybe one could package them with a prospect maybe for a larger trade. Mind you we give away picks like crazy lately so it's not like we a have a ton.

Here is the bottom line we can't even sign 3rd line guys in free agency. So these guys are not replaceable unless they are in the system or you make a trade.

Sounds like Byram may be available in Buffalo. Should the Jets be in on this guy?
I very much like Byram myself, as he’s such a smooth skater, and great puck handler. I’d have to see more of him, as I don’t watch Buffalo that much, but what I have seen of him, looks very impressive. I’d also be interested in McLeod from that team - very fast skater, and hustles hard.

Maybe a deal can be made with Buffalo ?

Even if you try to make a trade, you have to trade for a guy who wants to be here

There was smoke around Ehlers for Necas last summer, but Necas wouldn't extend here either

The only way around that is to trade a guy like Ehlers for futures

Hockey trades in the cap era are very difficult to pull off, and relatively rare for that reason. I think that you're oversimplifying the process

I’d say Connor and Nylander are both similar value wise. As for Guentzel, I’m sure he’s good as well, as his production is there.

All really good players imo.

Agreed…..You’re pissing me off with all this logical analysis supporting Chevy….can I please go back to hating him now…..pleeeeeaaaaasssseeee

The no trade clauses have alot to do with that. Now yes not all players have Winnipeg on their list but alot do. Makes it very tough and frustrating for Chevy i'm sure.
