2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

What happen to our 3rd line?
We used to have the best 3rd line in NHL
Regret signing Nino long term.
Lowery going to be UFA after next season
Apples. I don’t want to resign

They are all getting older and slowing down. Nino is 33 and has faded the back half each of the last two years. I'd expect more of the same moving forward. Lowry given his playing style has also shown some signs of fading down the stretch and some signs of not being the same player he was a couple of years ago in the playoffs.

They are still good players but imo they will need a younger winger that meshes with their style of play that can create a bit more offense to keep that line performing over the next few years.

This isn't just an issue with the third line though. A good many of our players are now in the twilight stages of their careers.

JAD requires some fine tuning in defensive awareness, but I liked his cameo last month.

I can't see why Anaheim wouldn't match an offersheet for McTavish. Without getting into huge amount of research, I'm guessing Anaheim has ample cap room given they're closer to the rebuilding part of the scale.

They'll probably match and thank the Jets for doing the negotiating for them. Like the Jets probably aren't giving McTavish an offer to the point the Ducks would decline. The idea would be to target a cap strapped team I'd think.

And just looking at some of the teams near the top of next year's projected cap hits, no one is really in big trouble.

Many reasons why not. Most of them don't want to leave where they are. Aho signed Montreal's offer sheet to force Carolina to match. Also for the next few years at least I think the days of teams being in cap trouble are behind us.

Also you'd have to think it backfires if teams decide the Jets are suddenly open for an offer sheet on a player who doesn't want to be here.
I don’t think young guys that want to leave Wpg will accept offer sheets because we have the right to match and keep them. See PLD. You would possibly have to worry about it when they only have a year left and we can’t trade them if we match a one year deal.

I’m all aboard the offer sheet train. It’s completely underutilized for a franchise that has one hand tied behind its back trying to sign UFA’s.

What I think the Jets really need is a back-up goalie who either once helped a team win a cup as a starter or a back-up who won a cup. Or just an ex-starting goaltender. Something similar to Jake Allen. One who can step up if Hellebuyck has a bad game or can step up when he needs a break.

Comrie is not that guy!

I expect to lose some players to free agency such as Ehlers, Tanev, and Appleton. In fact, I see Appleton taking an overpayment elsewhere and not living up to the hype.

Vilardi I see either staying or going, but if I was him I take what I can get because this is the best he'll get. I could see Philly grabbing him and have him as their 1C.

I see Fleury, Kupari and Samberg getting extensions. But I'm not too worried because I think Yager, Lambert and Chibrikov fill in the missing voids on the Jets.

The Jets finally have to learn to develop their own centers... give perfetti and barron time to develop as Cs - figure out who has chemistry togethe

Id like to see legit talent with Yager on the moose next year... didnt like the lines on the moose this year in terms of talent development

You see, anyone can give a player an offer sheet…

The important part is having the player accept the offer sheet.
The CBA should include a clause that if a GM can sneak up behind an RFA and cover their face with a cloth dipped in chloroform and successfully kidnap them back to his city, he has to sign the offer aheet

Barron has rounded into a solid C, but perhaps he tops out as a 3C? As for Perfetti, its always been a bit curious to me that we haven't developed him as a C. Increasingly, he is looking like a guy who can fill the role.

ok so unless it's some ridiculous offer for McTavish, the Ducks likely match. & really, i can't see the Jets ever doing that even. like what would be an offer-sheet that makes the Ducks decline matching, 9m? 10m? Jets aren't doing that for Mason McTavish. No chance.

like a fair value contract is in the 6-6.5m/year range probably? my brain hasn't adjusted to the new cap so maybe that's off.
if McTavish accepts an offersheet at that value, the Ducks probably match & say thank you for negotiating a contract on our behalf. even in the 7m range probably.

My guess is they didn't feel he was physically ready for it but I don't think those concerns should be there now.

The org is going to need a number of centers as some of our older players age out.

Another option is Vilardi, assuming they get him signed. Gabe is only 25 and a natural C, although apparently he wants to play wing? IDK.

I feel that Barron might be able to transition into Lowry’s spot over the next year or two. I think he could be a good replacement.

If you look at everyone who's been deployed at C under Arniel, they all skate better than perfetti (except for maybe Gus)

Jets had 3 home games where they matched up their 3rd line against Dallas's best line. I believe they gave up one goal against to those guys, which included a Conn Smythe front runner. In game 1. Scored 2-1 in the series.

Now Nino to me does seem to be losing a step which is concerning, his play alone cost the Jets a game 4 tie on a different line. But Iafallo is re-signed. He can play against the best in the league. He proved that earlier in the year with Lowry and Ehlers.

I'm surprised nobody has gone off about touted 2C, actual 4C, Morgan Barron being -3 matched up against Sam Steel. That was the Jets worst matchup result.

Yeah, it looked like Barron was taking a step but he had an awful series IMO.
