I wonder how they feel about the tariffs. It probably doesn’t affect them, but, would affect the communities they are from.
Honestly i do think the wives and girlfriends have the biggest say in this. I would imagine alot of them don't work especially if they have kids and if it was me i would want to be in nice weather all year too if I'm being honest. I will say though i don't know how much i would want to live there for the next 3 and half years .
I would guess a lot comes down to their own nationalistic sentiments, and the impacts they are seeing on friends and family.
I dont see the players as particularly nationalistic. They would rather play somewhere hot, but, still tough to see ppl actually care about affected.
Agreed professional athletes are insulated from the real life concerns of most of us. They will be able to live as they want unless things go really off the rails. There may be a few that are nationalistic, but we likely won't see that until they are pushed into a corner in some way.
I think we see it in things like National team tournaments like what we saw in the four nations but otherwise my guess is unless it starts to really impact their wallets they won't care much.
I'd much rather bring up a family in Canada than the USA.

Based on all the NTC's it seems the vast majority of Canadian players prefer the US.

I find it amusing that people seem to think that all Canadians (including NHLers) share the same opinions they do on what's going on right now. I talk to plenty of Canadians that would move to the states in a heartbeat if they could
As for NTCs, people are talking like it's only about location. There are other factors that go into it as well... if you're traded to another team, you have a new employer. Different organizations have different reputations among the players, and maybe someone doesn't want to play for certain owners for whatever reason
So before saying that these clauses should be done away with, imagine if your boss had the right to trade you to a different company within your profession and you were obliged to go work for them - maybe having to uproot your family against your will to do so. Pretty sure that most people wouldn't be OK with that

I could solve this NTC with one rule change.
Everybody gets a NTC but here is the catch …
No trades once the season starts … this way the small markets don’t get screwed during the season plus the players dont have to up root their family in season.
Also the crybaby players who demand a trade if you can’t come to an agreement…. You can sit out the season if you don’t like the team you are traded too.
This sounds like a win win situation … maybe I should send it to the NHLPA.
With the NHLexpanding to 2 more US cities in the near future this NTC is going to get worst for small market teams.especially the CDN ones.

The tough titty is for Winnipeg playing in a league against destinations like New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Florida. And we are doing just fine with them.

There is nothing that could or would entice me to move to that country. Hell, I don’t plan on visiting it again any time in the future. Just not worth it and nothing there worth seeing.

If I got paid millions of dollars I can tell you I'd be fine with it. I don't feel any sympathy for spoiled millionaires.
But we don't. It's not about sympathy it's about money for greedy owners and lifestyle security for millionaires.
Maybe I am wrong but in most cases I get the impression players want to play where they get the most money including less taxes. If I was a player the most important thing on my list would be a chance to win the Stanley Cup. I would definitely take less money to play on a better team. Sure other factors such as weather, family wishes and team/coach reputation would be factors but the number one issue would be to win.

I'd hardly call ANYONE who has a preference on where they'd like to live and make a living "spoiled"
To me, that term implies that they didn't have to work hard to get to where they are. I'd argue that the exact opposite is true. They dedicated their entire lives to their craft since they were 4 years old
Maybe you should try keeping up to their in season schedule, or maybe even just follow their off season fitness routines for a while before you call anyone "spoiled"
I'll continue to call them spoiled when the vast majority of people don't have the privilege of making millions of dollars, can't afford housing, can't afford healthcare/insurance (in the USA). I don't feel a speck of sympathy for them, it doesn't mean I don't think they trained hard.
