Hindsight. Tampa didn't win a cup because of Barclay Goodrow. Many more teams added more impactful players and didn't win.
The graphic is a little misleading because those teams did make bigger moves just before the deadline for impact players (level of impact may vary: Tarasenko, Barbashev, Manson, Savard, Coleman).

One thing i definitely learned from this trade deadline is it's next to impossible for Chevy to get really good players even if he overpaid . I'm ok with what he did do though because at the very least we will be a little harder to play against with Tanev and Schenn .

I think it was especially tough this year because other teams are scared of the Jets. The Avs going after Brock Nelson was partly (mainly?) to keep him away from Winnipeg - would that have happened if the Avs were sitting #1 in the league and the Jets were battling Minnesota for 3rd in the Central?

Similar to 2018 when the Jets tried to acquire Brassard and Vegas stepped in to block that deal and move him to Pittsburgh (which turned out to be a blessing in disguise when we ultimately ended up with Stastny).

Agreed. I thought he was gone for sure. Felt Heinola and a 1st for Ferraro would have been fair as he fits the sharks timeline better and can grow with that young team.
I’m guessing Heinola doesn’t move the needle for most teams. He is approximately #10 on our D depth chart and is undersized and plays a tentative game. I just don’t see many teams having an interest.

  1. 2 of the Jets/Dallas/Colorado are going to get elimanated before the conference final. Those deals or lack of deals will be crucified by the fans
Very true….and not just fans…the media is just as rabid when it comes to WPG
If we win the Cup, Chevy is a genius for trusting the team
If we go out early, Chevy should have done more to help the team
If Chevy would have paid up for Nelson or another high priced player and we win the Cup, Chevy is a genius who isn’t afraid to go all in when needed
If Chevy would have paid up for Nelson or another high priced player and we went out early, Chevy over paid and wasted assets for a team that obviously wasn’t ready.

This TDL was definitely one to stand pat and hold on to assets…prices were to high and will hopefully be lower at the draft or in the offseason

I don’t see Perfetti being moved as long as Ehlers isn’t signed…and at the prices thrown around this year, we’d likely have been lucky to get Puljujarvi for Perfetti…

I would have done our 1st + for Cozens but not including Perfetti or one of our higher prospects. Seems like BUF really wanted a C exchange in that deal, so I don’t see a fit with us trade wise
what do you mean we’d likely have been lucky to get Puljujarvi for Perfetti…? not sure what you are trying to say with that.

yeah i didn't think the Jets would trade any of the regular roster players at the TDL. but off-season i think they'd be more likely, and Ehlers would come to resolution by then by either being re-signed or walking.

for Cozens the Jets would really have to view him as a legit 2C for the majority of that deal. Given it's 5 more years, id consider moving 1 of our C prospects. Scheifele-Cozens would be the 2 top-6Cs for the medium-to-long term (essentially be the antithesis to Heinola or Kovacevic's handling)

It’s the nature of the beast and comes with the GM’s job. Only one team wins the cup which always makes pure rentals interesting. 15 GM’s miss and one looks like a genius. How do you like them odds.

In fairness as long as the move seems to make the team better and you make some noise in the playoffs I think as a GM you look ok (Stastny), but if you mortgage a full draft class (1st, 2 x 2nd’s, 3rd, 4th) for Monahan, Toffoli, Miller and you win one game in the playoffs you look REALLY bad.

Dallas made a hockey trade for Rantanen and locked him up for 8 years. I think that move is defensible for Nill if Rantanen plays well. Dallas has also been in and around the Cup for 4 years now so they are proven (one final and two conference finals). Nelson is really expensive and if Colorado goes out with an whimper and he doesn’t extend with them that deal is going to look bad. Honestly, though Colorado has won a cup and I think it makes sense for their GM to load up while you have Makar and MacKinnon in their primes.

Monday morning QB is such and easy position to play from the comfort of our phones, iPads, Computers but this is pretty complicated.

I mean the prices were stupid high…like it would take Perfetti to get someone like Puljujarvi

That seems to be the best time to address the 2C issue…hopefully Chevy can find a fix

I wanted Cozens and think he can turn it around with a change of scenery and better structured system, but I wouldn’t trade Yager for him

if prices are stupid high, than why would that not be the case if Perfetti was being shopped? ie: why is Puljujarvi returning a high price in Perfetti, but not vice versa? ridiculous hyperbole btw.

Remember what Chevy got for trading a #1 center?
While many think he hosed Blake ... that's the going rate. for #1 center. Vilardi turned out to be a great fit with 55 & 81 for a win in that trade but the Jets are still missing that #1A center.
If you want to trade for a good center ... its going to cost you.

I wasn’t meaning shopping Perfetti, I was meaning if we added him into a deal, it wouldn’t really move the needle based on what teams were paying for players.
Look at it from the buyer side not the seller side

It's already pretty crystal clear at this point from reports -- but just to sort of put a bow on it.

Lou in his scrum flat out said that they let every team know in the Nelson sweepstakes that it "had to be their top prospect" involved in the deal.

huh? i don't understand. your posts don't make sense to me maybe someone else can respond.

But if perfetti was available there'd be ton interest, higher than Puljujjarvi for sure.

We need to win the division, (conference), so I can enjoy watching Dallas and Colorado beat the shit out of each other and watch one go home after overpaying so high at the TDL
That would be glorious to see.

Now, pick your poison, which of those two teams would you rather face if the Jets make it past round one?

Despite having the 2 best players (MacKinnon & Makar) I THINK I would rather play Colorado. Even after what happened last spring.

Dallas is a far more well rounded team, has better goaltending and I just hate that team!!! Once upon a time I was an Avalanche fan when they had Forsberg, Sakic and Roy.

Yup - if it's the Jets people will put unfair weight on them not picking up that coveted 2C. I guess we will have to see how the team plays though. If they play like the last post season not even McDavid would help them.

If Rantanen doesn't play to expectations and the Stars get bounced, I could see fans being pissed at losing Stank and 2 firsts. Of course Rantanen will be back with the team but if he was a product of Mack I could see that situation getting pretty sour pretty quick.
