A couple of months ago, Chevy basically had up to 8 things to do, just about all of them are time-sensitive. The fact that only one is done worries me a bit - the wheels could fall off this summer if Poink and Ehlers don't come back.

-Re-sign Pionk
-Re-sign Ehlers
-Re-sign Namestnikov
-Do something with Iafollo?
-Do something with Appleton?
-Obtain 2C for playoffs
-Obtain depth D-man for playoffs
-Obtain 4th line talent if available (Tanev)

If Clarke is available in LA, hopefully Chevy pivots that way for his D move…maybe just seeing Chevys number will put Blake into a PTSD state that Chevy can take advantage of.
ROR/Nelson and Brandt Clarke would be a huge win TDL in my opinion

IMO, the only ones of priority left are signing Ehlers and a getting a 2C.
I’m, personally, very hesitant on extending Pionk. I think he’ll want to much and won’t be able to replicate this seasons production and play.
Iafallo you let walk. He’s not a do or die and can be replaced. If he’s willing to stay cheaply, then sure but if not…bye
Apples can stay on the 4th or go. Basically the same situation as Iafallo.

Honestly, I think the Jets have a legitimate chance of signing Boeser to replace Ehlers if he’s available July 1st, and Salomonsson will have you forgetting all about Pionk in a couple of years just like Samberg has us forgetting about Dillon and Schmidt.

A new Pionk deal has me worried it will be too much for too long. I don’t mind having him as an own rental to walk away at season’s end. I’m hopeful they can grab a top 4 calibre RH dman with a little term that can transition to Salomonsson in a couple of years. Carlo or Risto would work. I think we can’t underestimate the appeal playing with Helle might be for someone players. Though he hasn’t had the best playoff runs, he’s just the best at his position and gives you a chance to win a cup.

Top 4 RHDs are the hardest position to fill, and Pionk is without a doubt our best. Remember our D core when Trouba was traded, Buff retired, and Myers walked? It would be like that again with DeMelo-Miller-Salo down the right, with nothing in the pipeline. Pionk really seems to like Winnipeg, he gels with Samberg, why not pay the price?

Pittsburgh wants all the middling young player cast-offs from Nashville.

Glass, Tommassino and now Novak.

That org can't develop prospects
In my opinion, the Pens problem is wearing their GM's hat. Basically, a failure in TO and heading down the same path in Pittsburgh. I can't comment on the Sportsnet talking heads but I've yet to hear a disparaging word about Dubas from the TSN talking heads.

Agreed 100%.

Came to say exactly that. Rantanen has been sulking ever since being dealt. Standings aside, being moved again this to to Winnipeg isn’t going to miraculously change his mood.

He wanted to play hardball, now live with the consequences.

Agreed, he didn't want to leave Colorado but got too greedy for their tastes.

He wouldn't at all be happy here and it's the last thing we need.

A package for Clarke and Byfield would be something

There should be no way either of those pieces are on the market. But it is Blake...

He's trying to grab underutilized younger players to hopefully strike gold with a couple growing into top 6 type assets.

It's not a bad strategy when ypu have limited assets to work with.

His contract work is what is really doing his team in.

Pionk has his flaws for sure, but he's a top 4 RHD and as you said, those dont grow on trees.

In addition to everything you said, he also seems like a quality dude and fits in well in the room

I'm not sure what next year looks like due to another year of term for Miller, but beyond that, I think that Demelo - Pionk - Salo is the right side for a foreseeable time

I would think that "contract work" is one of the major line items in a GM's job description. And, if a GM is a failure at that, one might imagine he borders on incompetent. (There are a few in the NHL.)

Just finished watching the Hawks/Sens and if go the rental way and I really don't want to Donato is having a pretty good year
Curious, would Jets fans rather Laughton or Donato if acquiring Nelson is a no go???

Laughton’s got the extra year, but Donato brings more offense to the table.

Personally I think if Lou decides not to move Nelson or the bidding gets ridiculous, I would

To Donato and grab one Ferraro/Oleksiak.
