So, in the end, it looks like 75% of Gourde's money is retained.

TB might be calling some HFBoard members to suit up when this run with the current core is all said and done.

Guess it's all worth it if they hoist Lord Stanley.

Tampa can always go and sign free agents to stay competitive, we don't have that option even if we wanted to.

True, but no viable contributors on ELCs or any viable asset in the cupboard will take its toll on any team eventually. Just varying degrees depending on circumstance.

As @Gm0ney says - you also have to hit on the FAs, who you happen to mostly always be overpaying on, as well.

Weird situation all around. At this point, why not just hold on to him? You're not gonna get anywhere near the value you paid for him, so why not just hope that he makes a difference in the playoffs?
I could see something like a Rantanen for an extended Ehlers swap, if Ehlers has let the Jets know he isn't going to re-sign here. Carolina gets a long term piece that would fit their team like a glove and the Jets upgrade their rental.

Do we really want to spend top assets for middle and bottom 6 talent? That's essentially what's happening now.

How much more of an edge does that give us?

Fine paying for a clear 2C and mid to late round picks on pb depth but some of these deals for players who aren't better then the pieces on our roster don't much sense to me.

The team that wins the deadline rarely wins the cup just like the winner of FA day.

If Chevy knows Ehlers isn't signing yes i would do that trade. Rantanen has performed well in the playoffs.

If he's not signing for us why would he sign within a day for Carolina?

Seems super far fetched and do we want a pouty Rantanen in the room no matter how good he is? He hasn't done much for Carolina since being dealt there.
Not saying it would happen just that if it did i like Rantanen's 34 goals and 61 assists in 81 playoff games over Ehlers 4 goals and 10 assists in 37 games.

Chevy is travelling with the team and tomorrow they are in Philadelphia .... hmmmmm.
The report from the team was that Chevy and all the scouts would travel with the team on this road trip and then stay over night in Philly Thursday, until Friday's 2 PM deadline. It was presented as the most logical place to gather everyone and set up the TDL bunker.

Does Chevy always travel with the team?

What a difference between KFC and Matthews when asked the same question about adding players at TDL.
One thinks his team is not got enough to win while the other likes his team.

the focus is on 2nd line center according to dreger
-could come down to leafs/winnipeg and ultimately if lou does sell nelson
-feels like nelson would waive to come to winnipeg
-if falls thru could consider armia
-like to also add a vet d
-have the prospects to facilitate a trade

Nelson and Oleksiak are on Chevy's list.

If he takes Stanley out, all for Oleksiak, but I'd worry about him having to move up too with an injury. He's been pretty bleh this year in Seattle (tbf they've been bad).

More worried about the left side with an injury than the right atm, think Samberg is the anchor of that second pairing so Miller could survive there. But Oleksiak might get back to better hockey away from Seattle.
