Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

Me, 51 weeks a year: Build your team in the offseason. Don't throw future assets away for deadline rentals.

Me, this week: Rantanen. Whatever it takes.

Just asking

What would the Jets have to give up to get Rantanen? Similar to the canes?
* Martin Necas, Jack Drury, 2025 2nd Round Pick, 2026 4th Round Pick (all from Carolina)

Our lesser version of Necas-Drury would be Perfetti-Kupari. So we'd have to add to the pick/prospect side of the deal with Barlow and maybe a 1st.

Carolina would probably want Vilardi.

I have a hard time believing Rantanen won't sign. He's pushed his negotiating luck too far once already, I don't think he'll do it again.

I don't think that's accurate.

The Rantanen/ Necas swap was player for player who were going to explore FA, thought Necas does have an extra year of term.

In my mind, the only way the Jets actually land Rantanen is if Ehlers is going the other way and he expresses a willingness to re sign there.

Otherwise, Carolina would be better served just keeping him as an own rental.

I don't think the Jets are trading a top 6 forward with team control for a rental.

I gotta be honest I am becoming disillusioned with the league. I don't even want the Jets to make a big splash at the deadline but Friedman saying that they are going to be limited due to NTC/NMCs is such bullshit. These guys get paid millions and millions, there are people who work on oil rigs off the east coast or off the coast of Alaska or overseas who stay away from their families and make barely 6 figures and you're telling me that these entitled players have movement control?!? These guys are only as rich as they are because of the entire league and the canadian teams.

f*** these players man, I will be rooting for the owners to squeeze the players come the next CBA. Reduce their share of HRR to 40% if they want to keep the NTC/NMCs or make them give up NTC/NMCs if they want to keep their HRR share at 50%. If you are gonna enjoy the full benefits of a 32 team league, you don't get to put 33-100% of the league on your NTC/NMCs.

I look at it as a mixed blessing. We get to find out who doesn’t want to be here and we get to avoid many
expensive mistakes. I don’t want players that don’t want to be here.

It makes it tougher to attract free agents or put together trades but Chevy still manages. It’s the downstream effect of being a less attractive destination.

Fortunately players from 18 to 27 have much less control.

They really can't afford to with the lack of impact prospects waiting in the wings.

We are eventually going to be forced to transition from the aging Scheifele core and Cole is the only young player at forward on the roster to transition to at this point. Hopefully that changes over the next few years with Lambert, Yager and Chibrikov. But the Jets can't afford to take the chance that two top 6 players walk at the end of the year to FA.

Agreed but like @JetsFan815 , oops Chevy says, these players are making very good money mostly because of Canadian teams and TV deals. For them to say ya I'll sign for millions but i don't want to play in some Canadian city's kinda sucks.

Two? Ehlers+?

Could be three of Villardi’s wife gets her way.

Yeah, I don't think people realize that half our top 6 is capable of walking to FA either this summer or next.

We really only have Scheifele and Perfetti with control in the top 6. This org isn't in any position to deal a long term top 6 asset until such a time they secure commitments from some of the players that could bolt. And even then I'd say it's short sighted to deal your one young asset on an aging roster.

First believer our drafting has been atrocious as of late. This past year seems to have been a step in the right direction a little bit but lots of whiffs on first rounders.

And McGroarty isn’t exactly looking like a top 6 NHLer.

This team is missing Marcel Comeau; Hillier has not been great.
Not been a lot of rounds in the chamber. Many years have seen us walking out with draft classes of around 4 players.

The draft can be a bit of a crap shoot and you often want more shots in the dark rather than less. Constantly trading draft assets every single season means they basically have to strike gold with what few assets they have left.

Just saying...

There are 736 NHL jobs up for grabs in 32 cities (based on a 23 man roster). About 100 of those jobs are in the least desirable locations (let's say Winnipeg, Edmonton, Buffalo). Average NHL salary in 2023-2024 was $3.49 million per year and median retirement age is 31.

I would work in any of those 32 for $3.49 million a year, with deluxe work travel, fan adoration, and a high quality organization running the show.

I'm 90% certain Sammy and Volare will re-sign.

I thought I read somewhere that Sammy's wife was bashing the guy that said Sammy wants out?

And your knowledge of what Vilardi's wife wants is based on what exactly?
Someone on here a few weeks back said he was on the jets wives TikToks and she was on there talking bout how she didn’t like it. So speculation. But all players not wanting to sign is a legit concern till it’s not.

Yep it’s a lot of money and most ppl would do anything for it, till you realize that you can have it and your choice of destinations. We are not talking bout Heinola or Stan who will play for anyone who will pay them.

Chevy said from day one we were a draft and develop team until such time we got good then he would trade picks to add to the team if need be. I don't think you can just hope all your draft picks become hits you have to take a chance once in a while. I just think people make it sound too easy on here to have a great team in Winnipeg sometimes.
