20% of Brayden Schenn's 6.25 million salary is $1.25 million. 20% of Luke Schenn's salary is $550 000. The other 80% has been paid by the team that has been paying them all year. Maybe I am missing something?

you are missing that puckpedia already does the math when they calculate the deadline capspace so you need to look at the AAV of the player and not what is remaining salary this season

I don't want to get into knocking Lambert as a prospect too much. He still has potential. But I don't think he has shown enough to be getting penciled in as an Ehlers replacement, or strong 2C candidate. This year's edition of the Moose cloud the picture a bit but the bottom line is that he hasn't achieved at a very high level yet. If he had taken a step forward from last year the Moose might not have been so bad.

I'm hesitant to agree or buy the immediate Ehlers replacement too. Ehlers has been playing with 2 Mason Appletons in Fwd production, and is still near the top of the team in 5v5 scoring rate, a spot he's comfortably been for years on end despite a rotating cast of linemates.

Feel like people overestimate these prospects or young players so hard when there's huge factors to consider or margins of error.

Think this Moose team clouds it more than merely a bit... They have 17 wins, their leading scorer has 23 pts. He won't be playing with that poor of a Jets team relative to NHL standards.

Evans, Laughton...... Sounds like middle-6 or 3Cs, which makes sense I think.

The known big names other than Rakell are super underwhelming. Keep the 1st IMO, and try to make a deal in the offseason for a 2c or RD. Don't waste on a player who isn't a surefire top 6er and clear upgrade over Perfetti or Names. And the D market is super barren.

I will say I liked Gazdec's suggestion of getting Farraro for the bottom pairing.

I think that even if Stan still plays (one of them on the right) it is an upgrade.

Stanley has played relatively well during this 11 game win streak. I suspect he has some trade value. 6'7 still counts for something. Maybe Stan goes to SJS in the deal. Or maybe he goes to Philly for Laughton.

I am warming up to Laughton a bit. He is more 3C than 2C but he would create some options for Arnie. If we could get him and Ferraro we are harder to play against and more PO ready. At least I would hope so.

You have been completely wrong about it. On deadline day you only have to have enough cap space left to acquire the remaining amount on the players contract at that point. For instance if the Jets wanted to acquire Brayden Scheen today the actual cap impact would only be 1.693 mil. It's more complicated than that as as the cap is actually tracked daily and teams under the cap accrue additional space for each day that they are under but for the purposes of deadline discussions it's all pro rated.

True but most cap sites use an annual value for expected deadline cap space. Like the Jets have roughly $11 million. Your Schenn example wouldn't see the Jets have 9.5 ish still after getting Schenn but somewhere around half that amount.

Yes, but there can then be a delay before the league approves the deal. Just speculating a possible explanation.

Agree, it would be nice to see some more goals for sure. He does have a nice shot when he uses it IMO, and you're right about him needing to try and get more into the slot.

I'm ok with moving Lambert as well for a longer term solution at RD or C. When the Flames were further back and Murat and other Athletic writers did their thing on selecting a player to trade for and another writer setting the price, Murat chose Weegar and the price was Lambert. I would have been more than happy to make that trade (add a little as well if required).

I don't think Lambert even gets you close to Weegar. Might be the 3rd piece in a package.

I would be on board with adding Laughton + Ferraro, both guys have an extra year under contract and can fill in top 6 / top 4 in a pinch with injuries.

I think it is how TD cap space is calculated that you are missing. You can look at our actual cap space compared to the prorated cap hit of a player OR you can look at our TD cap space compared to the players full cap hit. You can't take advantage both ways.
