Armia is 3.4M cap hit, which is expensive depth.

I think the Jets could do with one more physical F as depth, but they need 3rd pair depth on D much more than at F.

I just don't see Armia as much of an upgrade on the current bottom 6-13 F, so why burn assets and cap space to acquire him?
I think it makes sense because we aren't burning much to acquire him at all.

He isn't meant to be a big deal. Just a pickup for a 4th rounder in case Appleton or Iafallo went down. Better PK player than Kupari or Gus and more skilled offensively.

I like your idea of bringing Tanev in as well for a lot of the same reasons.

I don't see the value. We already have great depth options, I don't see a measurable improvement.

Plus, what does that say to these guys who've been fantastic soldiers for us?
I dunno, ask Perfetti or Namestnikov last year?

Part of trying to win multiple playoff rounds is to have pretty good reserve players when you have 2-4 players injured at once.

I dont see the point.

Barron, Gustafsson, Kupari, Appleton, Toninato, Ford, J-Fjalby...
Barron is the only guy on this list I'd consider borderline competent if he had to move up to the 3rd line. When it comes to playoffs and there is no weak competition.

I mean, Toninato, Ford and AJF are AHLers (no offense to them).

Armia or Tanev or Laughton are just guys we can bring in who are plus 4th liners capable of not being a liability if shit hits the fan and they need to play 3rd. No one besides Iafallo on our team fits that bill currently. Add Namestnikov if we got a 2C though.

I loved One-Man Armia whilst he was here, but that seems like another era now. Frustrating at times, one of the greatest PKers the team has seen, but he was slow then and must be molasses on skates now.

Still holding out for this season's Nino/ Names -- skilled player who cam excel across roles and move up and down lines with consistency.

Last year we made big swings for MonOli, made some regular-season gains with Mon and got limited value overall with a playoff team that was noticeably slower and less cohesive, all as Perfetti sat.

This team is winning with skill, a pressure game and commitment to quick transitions, heavy forechecking and reliable linkup play all over the ice. Not sure you want to revamp a winning system over adding strength through depth to build from beneath, as it were.

Hopefully Ville gets a change of scenery and gets a good shot elsewhere.

Are you trying to equate Toffoli and Monohan to Armia?

laughton is a bit different from that group since he adds another Center to the mix, and his production rate (at 5v5) is actually superior to both perfetti and namestnikov. if he came in at more of a 3rd line level price i can get behind it.

If it was Connors for dobson I'm in,I just don't have strong vibes about a high scoring american not wanting to return back across the tarrifs line.been to many upper echelon american talent wanting to go play in the good old us of a.thats a risk I wouldn't take unless he has said otherwise to management.

KC has mentioned that he loves playing here. I would be shocked if he didn't extend.

Iafallo is better than Armia easily. But to me the other guys including Barron, that's just not true. Tanev I would love as well, even more than Armia.

And to your last sentence I agree. That's why I'm focusing on depth forwards, haha

2C would be nice but it's been an issue on and off for so long now...

Are you remembering Armia and Tanev as they were when here before? Armia is 7 years older, 31 and Tanev is 6 years older and 33. Either might have more finish than Barron. Or maybe his production is just about limited opportunities and a little bad puck luck.

If they are an improvement it will be marginal and probably not worth the costs.

Unless we can pickup Laughton for dirt cheap then he is not worth it, his advanced stats aren't great and I honestly don't see the fit with us.

You can look back 4 years to Armia-Staal-Perry the 4th line that sunk the Jets right out of the playoffs.

Or Armia who was playing top 6 in Montreal last year after the Monahan trade and still held water on a brutal team. 17 goals.

Or this year's Armia who is playing 2 and a half minutes on the PK with better metrics than most Jets forwards.

At the very least he would replace the edge Barron has in board work, with more fin(n)ish if that is the guy who got demoted .

Iafallo-Kupari-Armia as a 4th line seems ok.

Makes for competition without massively disrupting chemistry.

Might move ahead of Appleton too who hasn't looked great since coming back from injury.

Whose burner account is this coming in with the J Fresh? Haven't heard him used since he had the models that proved Ehlers was better than Connor with Scheifele.

I'm curious if Laughton is 3% on the PK and is better in metrics than Lowry this year, where does J Fresh rank Lowry in WAR.

I guess I just have a much lower opinion of the current 4th line guys then most on here. Not to say that I think Kupari and Barron are costing the Jets games but they are just kind of there not providing a ton of value. I get that they are both fast and Armia is certainly not fast but what does Kupari do with that speed? In the regular season they are both totally fine in thier roles but going into the post season I think it would be a huge upgrade to have a guy who can play at a 3rd line level on the 4th. As a plus he's an excellent penalty killer something the Jets need as Kupari has not been good on the PK.

The current bottom forwards P/60 at Even strength
Barron 0.8
Kupari 0.9
Iaffalo 1.2
Appleton 1.6
Nino 1.7
Lowry 2.3
Namestnikov 1.6
Armia 1.8

Assuming that they are able to add another middle 6 C whoever that may be the 4th line going into game one would be
Iaffalo/ Namestnikov/ Armia

What's wrong with the jfresh model? I don't recall any major problems recently with the data used, and not sure if I know what you're talking about ie Ehers vs KFC but if I recall Ehlers did have favorable 5on5 stats when on that top line last season.

I don't really spend alot of time on analytics, but my eyes tell me laughton is definitely an upgrade to iaffalo and Kumari in playoff sandpaper, and production, but the bench gets shortened in the playoffs, but iaffalo was weak along the boards period and was jumping from footprints.

Or you can look back to the 3 years before that when he collected 14 pts each year and Habs fans were begging to get rid of him by any means. IDK what was his problem. He is now in a 2nd year of being much better than that so maybe he is worth a late pick.

But he isn't capable of playing the Jets uptempo game. TT is not a horrible hockey player, but his slowness made him a bad fit for the Jets last year.

I haven't heard to many players state otherwise, yes a few but for the most part they all say they love playing where they are.
Seriously, if they haven’t already, TNSE needs to commission a video to advertise Winnipeg to free agents and trade targets, so they actually see more than Portage between the Fairmont and the Hangar in February.

Lots of players seem to like it here once they actually get here,

I'd look at Greenway from Buffalo.

I don't know how slow Armia actually is. He's never struck me as slow. Being a good PKer requires some speed. Playoff grind is winning battles. And Armia can win battles. The last game I was at Appleton was brutal. Going down the lineup after him gets you to Ford and Lambert with 0 playoff experience. For a 4th/5th round pick you might actually be upgrading on the player who is comfortably, some would say too comfortably, a top 9 lock so far.

Now maybe the Jets acquire a top 9 player, and demote Appleton a line. But that's still a player who is not coming off a strong playoff, seems like a risk free move adding depth at the RW position, with some playoff experience.

I'd prefer Sissons personally because he also backs up the defensive RHC, and is also great on the PK. Not sure he is actually available though.

I don't think you see Namestnikov centering the secondary defensive line with the worst FO% of all centers. I honestly believe he stays in the top 6, because it's not broken and the roles are pretty clear. Lowry/Kupari are the defensive zone faceoff guys in the bottom 6. Now it is possible a 2C is added and Namestnikov ends up a 4th line winger.

Depends what they like if it's high end latte bars or ice fishing, ski doing, boatiing from Victoria Beach to Warren's landing, long as you have a fuel drop north of grand rapids.
