Speculation: 2024/25 Trade Rumours, Speculation etc Thread

This is why I think there is zero chance we resign pionk. He is getting paid, probably more than 7 mil. And frankly our money will be better spent on other players.

We have the room to pay Pionk and Snerg as well as Gabe and Fly but it won't leave much space to add too many other middling paid pieces outside of them.

I'm anticipating those 4 will eat up around $30 million of the $40 million in available cap space.

The Jets have over 40M of cap space next year. Where are they going to spend that if not on Pionk?
Hopefully anywhere else. Lol.

If we resign Ehlers that’s 8 to 8.5

Samberg could be 6m

Vilardi is getting 7+ mill.

That’s more than half. Plus other ufas, and whatever contracts we may get at the deadline. We have less room than you think especially if we resign Ehlers.

Regardless if we resigned Pionk at 7 plus I give it a year before the fans hate it. lol.

I think people expecting a lot of players with term st the deadline will be disappointed. We have room to add maybe one $5 million forward going forward.

Massive IF on all of this... but that would be back to back years where Carolina went big game hunting with Guentzel and Rantanen and could have nothing to show for it long term.

Ouch.

We have our fair share of challenges in the market here, no doubt, but some other teams face them as well when it's time to put pen to paper for the long haul.
I think Carolina's ownership is a little more meddling than Jets in management. He wants stars. Forwards with 1st round picks.

I could definitely see a team like Chicago outbidding Carolina if Rantanen goes to market.

With Orlov to sign too this could be the last run for Canes.

I also think Chevy prefers to get players with a year or one’s that will resign. Otherwise wasted assets (unless we win the cup!)

I think chemistry on defense lasts a few years. Like Mo-Melo. De Melo might fall off sooner. Salomonsson on top pair should be the goal.

I'm expecting one forward with atleast an extra year like a Strome, Laughton etc and a couple of depth players on d and forward.

I think he approaches it like he did two years ago when he got Nino and Name and less like he approached it last year.

jets have something like 43 million to spend next year I would imagine their contracts to be something like:
ehlers 8 to 8.75
samberg 5.5-6
vilardi 7-8
total: 20.5 to 22.75

leaving us with 20.5 to 22.5 to spend on what ever is remaining, even if we need to spend a bit more on those 3 there is plenty of money left...

Are we trading or keeping Pionk ?

It looks like Iafallo might price himself off the roster, could be he wants to leave, Apples can be replaced in house, Vladdy is a nice piece to keep and probably not cost much to retain. Barron and Rasmus are RFA and will be retained I would think. The big domino is Nik, the bigger domino is KFC the following year. So if everything goes the Jets way contract wise they should bring back Nik, Vilardi, Samberg, Pionk, Barron, Rasmus and then hope that prospect can grab a couple of spots

Certainly not trading Pionk. But if they decide to let him walk, or if he doesn't want to re-sign / the Jets get out bid they better have some sort of plan to find a good RHD
My guess is that Pionk will be re-signed by the Jets, and his contract will be very reasonable. Both sides are likely motivated to maintain this relationship. DItto for Pionk.

I really like Iafallo but I could see him pricing his way out of the Jets, and perhaps more importantly, the Jets are going to want/need to open up some roster spaces for Lambert and Chibrikov, and then for Yager and Barlow. That might mean that the Jets move on from Appleton, too. It depends a lot on whether Ehlers is re-signed.

I think any trading for players with term will be done with an eye on who Chevy believes he will re-sign and for how much. I wouldn't be surprised if Chevy takes care of a couple of his own UFAs prior to the TDL, so he has a little more cost certainty.

I hope you’re right. Am 100% behind a reasonable Pionk signing around 6m. Don’t see it happening. But hope I’m wrong and you’re right!
